Would you let me take pictures of your wedding with an old Kodak Brownie and magnesium flash?Beyond that, I would let the photographer use whatever equipment they're comfortable with.
I would admire the camera and the photographer and I would wander how the film would be when he develops them. Someone using such camera would at least know what's he is doing.
I would be much more afraid if they would walk in with a Canon 400D with the kit lens and nothing else

Exactly my point. The majority of couples getting married don't have that sort of money for wedding photos, meaning a less skilled photographer with fast glass is a far more likely solution than a world class photographer with a 6mp SLR and a kit lens.robbie_d wrote:
Fair point, but what would Ziser, Zucker and Yervant charge to shoot a wedding?
Their studios turn over more than a million dollars a year so I think they charge a fair bit.Fair point, but what would Ziser, Zucker and Yervant charge to shoot a wedding?
It looks like people that our out there for the quick money and aren't that concerned about the photos.

Tony that sounds perfect, of course if a friend want to shoot it I'm more then happy to say yes but to see some here so stretch out with the idea of shooting a wedding I wander if i'm doing him a favor to say no instead

Sad to say, it isn't just the photos. Judging by adverts I've seen for "Bridal Fairs" (apparently the groom is just another accessory and doesn't get any decision-making powers?) there's a huge amount of money to be made in selling people horrifically gaudy stuff that they don't need but are determined to have because their friends didn't have it. In such an atmosphere is it any wonder that they'll thrust money at the first person who wanders past holding a camera-shaped object?

I'm not advocating the people in the video, I was having a discussion with PG about the relative necessity of fast glass in a wedding photographers' bag.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

I was at a wedding fair last weekend where a nice man tried to convince myself and the future Mrs Mongoose that we wanted to employ him and his Scalextric set for £500. We declined.Sad to say, it isn't just the photos. Tell you what though, some of the portfollios I've looked at make me feel a whole lot better about the shots I took for my Uncle a couple of years ago. The best of the wedding photographers are fantastic and far better than anything I could do, but a lot of the cheap and even some of the mid range ones leave a lot to be desired. Inconsistant exposures, screwy white ballance, just plain unimaginative composition...... and these are the ones they choose to advertise themselves with!
you don't have to be mad to post here
but it does help
but it does help

Well quite. Consider the Scalextric set you could buy for £500 and the fact that after the day ended you'd still have the set...

On the subject of overpriced weddings...
My cousin bought a set of portaloos after being horrified at the rental charge when she enquired for her wedding. She now rents them out as a business, they have more than paid for themselves and she's even bought another set.

A definite wedding success there! My cousin bought a set of portaloos after being horrified at the rental charge when she enquired for her wedding. She now rents them out as a business, they have more than paid for themselves and she's even bought another set.

This camera is one of two that I'm selling, which has been used over the past two years by an assistant wedding photographer. The K10D is an excellent camera for summer or bright days but struggles in dark or short winter days when being used professionally. All my Pentax equipment is being upgraded to Nikon.

Perhaps it's the autofocus hunting?

I'll never understand this thing about "Pros need Nikon or Canon". I think the handful of pros using Sony gear are just as baffled by it!
The only thing Pentax doesn't have compared to them is full frame (and I still think they're leaving that alone in favour of the 645D). Before I bought my K-m last year I looked at Pentax, Nikon, Canon and Sony DSLRs. The K-m was the best camera for the money from all brands.
My K-m is quite happy in low light providing I have a decent lens on. I tend to pick the 50mm f1.7 as it's the fastest lens I own, but I'm expecting good things from the 120mm f2.8 too.

Does that mean it's fine on dark or short winter days provided you use it in a strictly amateur capacity?!
