Problem in taking photos in dark

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a digital camera. Few days ago, when I was using flash in the night to take a picture in my room, there was captured an image containing bright dots, but not the picture. What may be the possible reason.

Too little information here for a definitive answer, but could it be reflections from glass / mirrors / windows etc?
Getting there! Thanks to you guys
