It's a silent *
Well if that is true then it REALLY makes me wonder what the #@%! were they thinking.
I wonder how they pronounce *.*

Whatever it means, or if it means nothing, perhaps it has worked well because people are discussing it. I doubt there will be many conversations about how you pronounce Canon 350D or Nikon D70s.

It might be a rather clever move after all!

Drew & John,

The original Pentax blurb said that the "*" in "*ist-D" was a wildcard (yes, like "*.*" for which you substitute a phrase.

For example - "photographist", "artist", etc.

(What ever a photographist is?!!?)
But even then, "ist-Dee" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it?!

A stupid name it may be (actually it is) but at least it won't be forgotten in a hurry.......unlike the fact that we're supposed to be trying to solve a problem with an SFX!

I have to agree with Kimbo, these very able cameras don't seem to be very desirable at the moment, they change hands for £25 to £35 on ebay which means they really aren't economical to repair.

Hi, I have a suggestion about the flashing rtf lamp...

I think the rtf on the SFX has a coverage of 35mm. If the camera has an F or later lens mounted, and it senses that the current fl is shorter than 35mm then the flash is disabled and the lamp flashes to warn you.

Of course that doesn't help with the motor winding noise, but maybe it might eliminate something else?

I think you maybe on the right lines there, Abbey.

I've just tried my SFX with an FA28-105 lens set to 28mm. The red flash-ready light does indeed flash to indicate the inappropriate focal length.
This only happens however, while the shutter button is partially depressed and with the flash popped-up.
With the flash down, the light should be extinguished but according to the earlier post, this is not the case and so could either be an unusual error code or a problem with the pop-up mechanism

I wonder if the shutter release is sticking in the partially depressed position

hi, I have the same problem with the SFX. I think it is because of the bateries, but I can buy new one tomorow to be shure.

Do you solve the problem yet. Please help
