I am wanting to make an A4 print with a small (5mm) white border round it and a thin black key line. I am using Elements 7 and would like some advice on the best way to achieve this please.

in PSE8 which is probably similar: window>content then select frames and choose one close to what you want and adjust from there.

1)Open your image
2)Open new file and size the canvas about 35cm X 45cm
3)Use the moving tool and drag your image on top of the new canvas
4)Set your cropping tool to 20cm X 30cm and crop the image to your required border width
5)Flatten image

This works with CS3 but I am not to familiar with Elements 7. I hope however that I have pointed you in the right direction..

I find the easiest way is to first select your image, then go to Image>Resize>Canvas size, then select the number of pixels/cms you want and the colour (at the bottom).

If you want to do say a thin black border followed by a thicker white one, you just do the same thing twice adjusting the size & colour accordingly.

Makes a lot of sence Dr. I have tried it and it works quite well. That is indeed easier.
If you want to add a black border on my method, just repeat the process but use your paintbucket tool to colour the new canvas black.
Cheers!!

Select All (Ctrl+A) then Edit>Stroke and select how many pixels wide you want the line, what colour, etc.

When that's done Deselect All (Ctrl+D) and save as required.

Thanks for the suggestions I wil try them out when I get home. When I am done if I resise the new bordered image to the exacxt size I want to print, am I right in thinking that it will print as I see it i.e with the border?

What I am trying to say is this. After putting a border around my image using the resise canvas option and saving it, if then I resize the print to say 10x8 for printing would that include the border within those dimensions. I guess what I mean is would the border become part of the image or would it still be the canvas?

So sorry for any confusion.

Is this the sort of thing? If so it's in the book "The photoshop elements 7 book for digital photographers by Kelby and Kloskowski" and is a breeze.

Hope it helps,

Andy
