Don't get confused between ppi (pixels per inch) and dpi (dots per inch) - the former refers to the image in Photoshop (or whatever program) and the latter refers to the number of dots of ink the printer lays down.
For printing the image size should be entered, the ppi set to 300. Photoshop has a default resampling set to Bicubic, which is fine. All you have to do is enter the image size as you want it on the paper, say 29.7 x 21cm for A4. That will fit borderless. If you make the image slightly smaller than that it will fit on the paper with a border.
Alternatively, using the Crop tool set the figures you want in the top bar and crop. The proportions will be correct and you can choose which bits of your image to include. Resampling will be Bicubic by default.
Now this applies to Photoshop (all versions) and involves resampling to resize. For normal purposes this will not be detrimental to image quality.

Thanks John but I seem to be doing all that. As I said I even made the image size slightly bigger than the paper. From Page set up I choose Landscape A4 when I go to print I select centre on page. When I go to printer preferences I again choose borderless printing and A4 paper size but still get about 2mm white border, but frustratingly not on all prints and I cant think I am doing anyhting different.

Did you mean to write that you make the image size bigger than the paper, because if you do then it won't fit on the paper.

I was following the reason that if I made the image size slightly bigger than the paper then it would get rid of the white edge I get when I make the image the exact size. Am I misunderstanding something here John? Also I am noticing that when in page set up I select paer size A4 or boredrless A4 210x297 exit and then go back into page set up it seems to change my size to letter each time?

I think you are misunderstanding something. It may be that your printer is not printing borderless too well, or that the image proportions you have selected are not the same as the paper, in which case it can't print borderless. You can trim the print afterwards to cut off the border.
If you make the image larger than the paper size it will mean that you only print part of the image because the paper isn't big enough.
I would choose Print Preview to see what the end result will be before you press the Print command. But first make the image the right size and then you'll at least know that the file you are trying to print is OK.

Just a quick note .. Is the printer capable of printing right up to the edge ... some aren't
Pentax K7 and K5 and several black tubey things with magnifying glass in that twist around and move in and out - to be honest I am not sure exactly what I have. Will list the proper names one day..

Can someone please help I have been trying to print to A4 210x297mm. I have resised my images to correct size. Used page set up from elements 7 and set my printer to the correct settings A4 210x 297 borderless prints. I checked print preveiw and it seemed OK but almost ecery print I have tried comes out with about5 mm of white border along one of the long sides. I even tried resising my photos to 230 x 310 so they would be bigger than the paper but it still seems to happen. I dont understand how this happens or why but it has me tearing my hair out. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong and how I can stop this happening before everyone starts calling me baldy. Arrrrrrrrr!
Regards
Johna
