Printing

Hi again all

Can anyone out in snappyland please help; I want to print two 'photo's in the same size as you see in a passport or driving licence,that kind of thing, but my printer only offers me a fixed selection of sizes,none of which suit. All far too big.
I know I can get this done for a couple of quid in a station machine but I do have a reason for doing this at home.
I have an Epson Stylus DX4050 and a Canon iP6700D. I am using Windows 7.
Any ideas please?

Your printer is only giving you standard paper sizes. What you need to do is reduce the image size that goes on to the paper.
I don't know what image software you are using, but you should be able to select image resize or size. You can then reduce the image size to the required dimensions. If you keep the paper size the same as a standard, then your correct size print should be printed in the middle of the paper.

I've used Serif PhotoPlus in preference to Photoshop for several years, although both will do the job you need. I'd recommend downloading the free version of PhotoPlus from the link below and see what you think.

I have access to P.S. CS3 and I did re-size the image in that but I still could not get it to print to the re-sized size

Have a look in the Help menu for the Resize Wizard.

Brain addled from too much gin.

Don't worry about paper size (which is what you mentioned in the first post), just concentrate on using the resize option for the image.

If you've resized it to the correct dimensions (something like 35mm x 45mm, I think?) and view a print preview, it should show as a small image on a big sheet of paper. If not, then there's something else going wrong, and you'll have to talk us through step by step what you're doing, for us to see where the problem lies.

Quite possibly the printer is being too clever and resizing to fit paper. The Canon will try and do this if you're not careful. You need to go into the Canon printer properties on the print dialogue in PS as I recall.
