But the Canon Pro9000 is a discontinued model actually, it's replaced by the Mark II last year.

I've always used Epson printers and they do a good job.
Canon have a good reputation for printers as well.

I use a HP B9180. It's the underdog, but the results are on par with the Epson or Canon. There is a cheaper version called B8550, if I remember correctly. It lacks a few features, like ethernet connection, but otherwise, it's the same thing.

Like John, I'm a satisfied Epson user, but Canon and HP do an equally good job I'm sure.
After print quality, your next consideration should be running costs. There will probably not be much difference in the purchase prices.

I've just seen an A2 print from the 7dayshop folks Snapmad.com (I'm not affiliated) and I think I'll forget all about an A3 printer. Apparently it was just over £7 if you print 5 or more and this drops if you do 20. OK if you print 20 you'll be spending over £100 but I'd imagine 20 A2 would eat a considerable amount of ink.

Out of interest do you have an opinion on the subject of the thread (or perhaps a diagram to show which is best in the absence of actual experience of either model)?

And I've learned from John and others here (forgot their names sorry) that's very wrong to assume things in English, they got mad because I assumed something that wasn't the case
They only got slightly mad and not really but you get the idea.
So English seems to be a great language on the net but it seems to be so amazingly hard to use it right certainly with native speakers around.
Funny enough I read no comment that goes about those two specific models (which we must assume one) in your thread so why are you picking on me?
You aren't even reacting to the comments of the other members, not even say thank you or show any form of interests. All you do is make a comment on my comment and talk about me, I must be very important to you or something like that?

Thanks for all who have given me food for thought, particularly you Doug, there's part of me that thinks that might be the most sensible answer.

It depends what you think the cost is worth for not having to stump up £500 odd quid, keep up on the inks, get some decent paper, and not break the thing, and calibrate everything.
If you have the money about and you can rationalise the volume and recoup the costs, all very well.
I'll be dabbling in on-line printing as I like the idea of a nice framed A2.

Quick update. My local University has a Photography Centre and provides print services externally.
C-type printing A3 is £2.80
Inkjet printing A3 £7 and they go up to B0 for £50. And can print on HD film for light boxes too.
They also provide negative scanning including 120 roll film 1800x1200.
£5.50 for 15 images and 30p per image after that. Hi-res add £3. (5300x3600)
Anyway. Its worth noting and I'm probably going to print off a few A3 and compare online vs Uni.
A3 printer is one less lens and a whole bunch of space.

Current printer (which was pretty poor for photos) died today, so looking to replace it.
Would like to get something which can print decent photos in colour and b&w, and will allow me to print up to A3 when required.
I've had a casual look at things like the Canon Pro9000 and Epson SP1400, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer choice, not helped by the fact that a lot of reviews/opinions focus on discontinued models.
Does anyone have any particular recommendations?
