Printer Advice (Canon PIXMA iX6550)

My printer has died and I am trying to find one that is good for printing photos that doesnt cost the world for replacement ink. I have looked into the Canon PIXMA iX6550 and it looks like it has some good reviews.

Canon Official £39.80

Compatible ink £13.48

Anyone know any websites that have a good comprehensive comparison of printers and Ink? i.e. has a list of printers that use ink cartridges which can be refilled without replacing a chip and realistic page yeild estimates?

Or is it really easy to replace a chip? Do you buy lots of them and use one each time you need to refil the ink?

Thanks

Or maybe I should just buy a colour calibration device and get them printed at a professional lab?

Would still need a cheap printer for letters and the likes, which preferrably can be refilled etc.

I bought the ix6550 recently, as I thought it was too good to miss and A3+ printer at the price.

Images so far a very good....and match what's on screen pretty closely - even without more than simple monitor calibration.

I have the Canon Pixma MG5250 which uses the same ink cartridges. So far I've stayed with Canon inks and found the cheapest prices are 'good old' 7DayShop.

If anyone has any recommendations for 'compatibles' I'd be interested to hear your comments as regards colour and durability.

I've got a Pixma IP6600D and don't use anything other than Canon ink from 7Dayshop as well. After trying other paper (that I happened to have) I now only use Canon paper as well as the colours are far more accurate.

www.dpreview.com now also offers printer reviews - all other specialized pages I know are unfortunately in German.....
