Well after reading Ralfs recent post I decided it was time to submit some images to the PPG so fingers crossed

And for those that are alread registered a question on voting, How many images is one expected to vote on? it seems to me that they just keep on coming and you could be there all night.

I think the limit is that you can only vote once for a photo

Well I was thinking of getting a glass but no need for that
You aren't expected to vote at all I believe, at least I don't do it often.

Depend on how conscientious you get, and how long you can sustain that Voting tends to go in peaks and troughs for me - time available is a bit of an issue for most people, probably.

The minimum number of pictures you can vote on at one time is five I think because you have to vote on a whole page of shots (5) before your votes can be submitted. Then just depends how many pages you want to sit and go through. I try to vote on a couple of pages worth each time I log onto the site, and you're right - they just keep coming...

I have never got to the end of a batch of current photos. I just do some when I get the chance and continue until I run out of time or get bored!

I find I'm getting bored very quickly, as a matter of principle I wont vote for sunsets, captive animals and 90% of the macro shots. There still is a lot of inspirational work though. I do notice that many I give the thumbs down to do get through.

Only once did I vote all the way to the end. Has anyone ever had the chance to vote on their own work?

Ken,

Been to the end a fair few times, never seen my own work. There's probably something in the site programming that means you don't see work submitted under your own log-in.

Then again, through that same process, I've actually not been given the opportunity to vote on other's images, that then pop up in the gallery! Now how does that work:

Get to the end? I didn't even know that was possible On a couple of occasions I've voted for an hour or more, but usually it is more like 10 minutes. Sometimes I don't vote for weeks or months. It doesn't seem to affect your own acceptances.

Like Ken I find I'm pretty harsh in voting. For starters I vote out everything with a leaning horizon. Common topics like sunsets and macros have to be really stunning for me to vote yes. I find I'm more lenient with portraits though, there aren't enough portraits in the PPG anyway, and a great captured expression can cover up a lot of technical sins

I've never seen one of my own images, although I will regularly recognise an image that I've seen posted here.

I find my views can skewed by a title and I know they shouldn't but sometimes a really good picture can be blown by a few ill-chosen words.

Have you noticed how prolific some posters are like the amazing night time desert landscapes with star trails by someone with a Spanish name?

Like Tim I get brutal on shortcomings like blown highlights and sloping horizons.

I think there must be a minimum number of votes and a certain percentage positive, but ain't sure though.

Same here, I only once had a page with all thumbs up. Most of the time it's 2 thumbs up per page.

The PPG is a funny and uneven selection. Lots of bird photographs, very few "street" photographs, lots of landscape, very few really good architectural photographs (perhaps due to Pentax's lack of a TS lens )

I too vote down anything with basic errors like sloping horizons, badly blown highlights, or slightly converging verticals (rather than the dramatic use of them for effect). Sharpness depends on the photos, some subjects do not have to be stunningly sharp, some do. Most of all I go on whether I find them boring or not.

I have never got to the end. Short attention span here!

Indeed Kris - a bloke 'on another forum' who I see as fairly talented claims he had a shot knocked back, resubmitted it a year later and had it accepted. The vagaries of vox populi...
Hmm - Or was that populus?
