Potential trap for eBay sellers

I don't agree. eBay would do no business if the rules didn't suit us as well as them. They have to perform the delicate balancing act of charging as much as possible without putting us off.

It's normal in all kinds of business for Big Boys (bulk-buyers) to get discounts, and it's natural that eBay want traders to use eBay instead of their own independent online shops. This is good for buyers as well. I enjoy buying from traders on eBay as much as private individuals, and eBay's feedback and PayPal system makes it more convenient and safe than using a website I've never heard of.

Actually the average private seller can take advantage of some of the new features as well, for example the 40p flat rate for Buy It Now for a listing up to 30 days. Previously it was just the Big Boys who would get anything like that.

Talking of Ebay, I currently have some dopey prat in Serbia trying to get my name and full bank details out of me on the basis that he "cannot use Paypal or credit cards from here". He's very convincing, even gave me links to his Facebook and Myspace pages so I'd "know I am real person"

I'm keeping him dangling by asking lots of questions. He has an answer for everything

The reality is that he's probably in an Internet Cafe in Lagos and has hijacked untold number of social networking site profiles.

I'm noticing a LOT of these lately, and they all have brand new ebay usernames and 0 feedbacks. Hmm

I used to block all bidders with below 5 pos feedback (email first), I don't know if you still can do this?
And anyway he could pay ebay/paypal with a credit card/bank account.

I thought I'd let you know the outcome.

When the buyer sent back the book I sent him a full refund, so that closed matters off. We exchanged positive feedback, although there was no choice in that on my side of things!

The second bidder got offered the book and was delighted in every respect.

So side by side I have two positive fedbacks, one saying the book was no good but I sorted it out quickly. And next to it one saying the book was brilliant.

Weird?
Best regards, John

Perhaps the first buyer could not read, some on Ebay, I'm sure can't.
