Hi All,
It might also be an idea to put some links (or a sticky) to free editing softare that people can use for this challenge / competition.
When I first started out I used GIMP quite a lot to process my pics and to be honest I never came across its limitations, I have only moved over to photoshop because it comes with Adobe CS suite, (which I needded to purchase for work) and yes all of the tools are indifferent places BUT the terminology is very similar. As the plan is to give people an overview of what you did to process a picture I am sure that even a novice using different software will pick up tips and tricks on how to process.

one I'm not sure it's ok to use other images other than what is provided, and two I didn't shoot the second image.... it was a non copyright marked image off google.... I only entered for humor sake.

it is not you can find those things parked at the local Walmart in rural Manitoba!

This is the PAGB's views on this sort of thing;
CHEATING "A photographer was banned from all PAGB Competitions for reported plagiarism. In effect using royalty free images as background or as component parts of photographs entered for competitions and exhibitions. Although there was no reported infringement of copyright, use of such components is not permitted by the PAGB nor by most Federations. The photographer will be stripped of any PAGB
Distinction he/she may have and the PAGB will recommend to UK Exhibitions that they do not accept his/her entries. Specific information will be sent to Federations."
Oh I see, it is a challange not a competition....

I have just looked at the competition entry's, and as I said the local camera club held a competition very similar to this tonight.
The image's supplied had been adjusted for levels, parts added totally changed and other items added.
It was well received and I learned a lot about the way different people like or not an image.
The entry's so far have used similar techniques to the camera club images so I hope we all learn something by taking part.

I don't think there is much point in starting with good stuff just to give it a bit more shine, but of course it may be some idea for "challenge", just what would people "judge"? that one applied a bit more sharpening or saturated colours bit more than other ?.
On the other side I get the point that starting with interesting image may encourage couple people more.
