Poseidons Nuts

Now look, when I showed something like this to my photography tutor, I heard the sucking of teeth and I said, "what" and he said, "its a bit boring, just a circle really". I deflated. Hence I have a boring set on my flickr for boring images that I like.
Anyway, I like the colour and marbling of the cover against the grey/blue background. I like the geometry of the nuts tight like the mussels. But its a detail shot.

Lurking is shirking.!

I fear I agree with the tutor - there's nothing that catches my interest here and there is no apparent structure. (I too have a large collection of photographs that others find boring but I don't worry over much - I'm right, they're wrong)

I think it has the definite beginnings of a great shot - just a crop (preference being top right) and dodge/burn to enhance the contrast in the mussels and I'd be happy.

Of course I like it. I suppose I'd beter go into wearisome detail as to why.
The lighting is good and strong; the textures are varied and sharply rendered; the colour of the rusty lid is vivid and I love it when the works and man and nature are combined and subject to forces of time and erosion.
Oh, and I spend most of my time looking for this sort of thing to photograph so I would like it.
But I'd borrow Gareth's Tamron 90mm and just capture a nut or two with those barnacles...

Andrew if the 'wearisome detail' is for my benefit don't worry I given up. If on the other hand that detail is so that others can learn then it's far from wearisome and is invaluable.
I have read the writing on the wall and accept I am not in tune with the forum.

This has element I find interesting although I would have preferred that the main focus was on the foreground nuts rather than the back set, cropped a little tighter loosing some of the background rocks and taken just a little lower so that the nuts & assorted hangers on became more dominant in the shot. Not a criticism just a different view

I'm with Mike!
But there was bags of potential here, as Andrew says the light is great and the subject as are the textures - all that is needed is a stronger composition. Moving in closer and achieving a tighter comp with maybe just three nuts and some mussels would have been all that was needed.

I would guess the nuts and bolts are stainless steel, therefore no rust and because of this I am pleased to be able to see the whole shot. I enjoy really climbing into a picture and having a good poke about, but must admit that for WOW factor a closer, cropped shot of only a few nuts and mussels would be the answer.
As a technical/forensic photo this is good, but I can understand it doesn't give the artsy appeal.
The truth is, do you like it or not?
Cheers,
Stephen

I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.
