I read on the I/Net that Irfanview will run under Wine - apparently "straight out of the box". That would be perfect for what I want - a Flashtrax substitute.
Have you tried it?
Not yet, but I probably will. The purist in me thinks WINE is a bit of a cop-out, but the realist says do whatever is easiest. Of course, Irfanview handles DNG files.

VirtualBox running Windows under Linux is a cop-out, WINE is just a compatibility layer allowing you to run the software you need in the environment you want (for me anyway).
I haven't tried Irfanview, but WINE has improved dramatically in recent years and now seems to run most things as long as they aren't too graphics intensive (note that photos are not graphics intensive, they're just pretty).
