Ahem!

Following on from Prieni's poppy post......

We had a huge poppy appear in the garden this year, at 12inches high I was going to weed it out until my wife informed me it was a poppy (it just looked green and weedish to me ) so we decided to leave it, at 4feet high it started to flower, unfortunately the rain prevented me getting to it, then we had a real downpour and this is what happened to it:

Fortunately the roots appeared intact so with the help of a bamboo cane and some cable ties its now back on its feet and I am awaiting the next flowering, just after I took this shot I took a tape measure to it, its just short of 5 feet

Wow, I'm glad that the poppies around here are not growing that high. I did consider taking a ladder with me for the shoot, it's just such a hassle to get it in the car.

You certainly have a fine specimen there...

I wouldn't mind one of those poppy heads garden could do with some seasonal improvements.

Could use the seeds in my bread maker!!!!

Well opium is basically morphine. All species of poppy produce small amounts of morphine and the other compounds that make up heroin and opium. You'd need a lot of ordinary poppies to get any effect.

Similarly, nutmeg contains LSD and is one reason you can OD on nutmeg (and why it has some strange effects on food and people).

So if I made a poppy and nutmeg loaf...

I wonder what else I could add...

hey it hit the news a while back that poppyseed bread and muffins have left trace amounts of opiates in the bloodstream, causing people to fail random drug screening tests...

As a kid I recall a brand of cheesy crackers that had poppy seeds. Very tasty! Haven't seen them for a while

There are all sorts of things that can do that, it is very difficult to clear everything. You'd need a completely clean very boring diet to pass all tests. Also depends on the sensitivity, hair tests are best as they can give a very long time line with accurate measurements.
