hi there, i've just gone through a brand new set of duracell alkaline batteries in about 40 shots with my k100d super. without flash.

is this normal?

i'm going to pick up some rechargables i just haven't had a chance yet. is there any particular ones which will give me decent battery life?

i've used 7dayshop 2900mh ones before and they seem quite decent, has anyone used them in their camera?

Were you using the Duracells in cold weather? This may account for poor performance. As OBIONE says though, get yourself a set of Eneloops.

Normal Alkalines are rated for about 80 shots in my K200D. Alkaline batteries are not ideal for DSLRs as the voltage quickly drops below what is necessary to run the camera.

Eneloops or other low-discharge rechargeable batteries are the cheapest option. If you want to use non-rechargeable batteries then they should be lithiums, which will last for a very, very long time (rated for around 1100 shots on my K200D, I think).

And will perform better than alkaline at low temperatures.

I used Energiser Lithiums in my K-x - and they lasted and lasted and lasted. Big advantage is they can be purchased virtually everywhere

Something else I just discovered is that they are only two-thirds of the weight of alkalines.

Yeah I have a K100D , I use eneloops most of the time , and I have a set of Energiser lithiums as back up when out and about. I've had them for two or three years and when I put them in the camera they still say full charge.. jeff...

Lithiums are incredible. If they weren't so expensive I'd use them all the time.
