Nice set of shots but only 1 and 2 look sharp to me, the others need a tweak of USM.

Remember to use the USM as the last thing you do to the photo. So after all editing and resizing.
The settings will be dependent on both the subject and the size of your output. A good "average" setting I find is 80/0.6/0 for a file 1000 or 800 pixels wide.

I'm afraid I dont think they look as sharp as I would expect, what aperture were you using? The highlights are blown in places and I wonder if this is down to using spot metering, I would use centre-weighted. If these are crops I'd like to see the full frame for comparison.

If you are shooting in RAW format Jeanette, that'll never happen. All RAW images will probably need some sharpening at least because it's not done in camera.

When you resize pictures for the internet, it's important to apply a little USM afterwards, no matter how sharp the original pictures were!
