Classics in mono

Went to St Helens Festival today to do some shots of Classic cars specifically in mono. (as I need the practice) All C&C welcome and I hope you like the photos.

I know this one is colour, but I just loved the reflection of the blue sky in the paintwork here.

Cliff absolutely super but give me colour, I see you have the Sigma 105mm were these taken with this lens? if they were then you have made my mind up to get one,

Sorry Jack, they where all taken with the 18-55 kit lens, it really is a super little piece of kit. Not taken an awful lot with the Sigma yet, but the results are excellent when I have used it. Well worth considering!

Cliff I always said the kit lens was good, I don't think people use it enough, maybe when they see these they'll start using it, I still want the 105 anyway.
Forgot to add I had a Triumph 1300
and it was only 38C today

I agree - but I've come to the conclusion that I have a good copy of the 18-55 MKII anyway. I've no desire to get a 16-45 or 16-50 anytime soon that's for sure. The 17-70 would tempt me however......

Nice shots Cliff, I'm not usually a fan of digital BW, but I really like the roller one and the coloured Zodiac boot.

Like the roller, but the silver ladies arms don't stand out enough against the sky for me.

The Triumph looks like a 70's brochure shot, nice.

As for the lens, there aren't any bad Pentax 18-55s out there, it's probably the best kit lens available, in all it's Pentax/Samsung guises, out there.

Thanks Dave, see what you mean about the lady, problem was it was a very bright day and there was plenty of glare off the chrome surfaces, but I`ll have a play around with it and see what I can come up with.

When you say the 18/55 kit do you mean the mk1 or mk2 lens Cliff I realy like the look of these photos took with it.

The digital BW conversions look good to me with a full range of tones and good contrast. The first shot is a bit spoiled by all the people in the reflections, but I guess you had little choice! I like the zodiac image best myself.

I have the Mk1 kit lens and use it all the time. Although I have been tempted by the 16-45 or the 16-50 I decided to invest in complementary glass instead, like the 50-135 and the 12-24.

Hi Ian, Its the mk1. Tbh I never use it much, it always seems that my Tamron 70-300 is stuck on the front of my camera, don't know why!. After using it yesterday though, I think it will be out of my bag more often now.

Kris, Thanks for your input, and your right, I didn't have much choice with the reflections, with people all around the cars it was difficult enough to get a decent shot of any kind, so I ended up taking close-ups of various bits and pieces, enjoyed the day though

I was always happy with the mk1 kit lens but I think I read the mk2 is even better as it was brought out to cope with the extra pixels in the k20 when it came out I belive. I wonder if it offers any better performance on a k100 d or k10 over the mk1 ? sure someone can answer that one.

The MkII is still less than £50 last time I checked... certainly the best value lens in Pentax's current line up! I read a comparison review of the two lenses and felt it was worth 'trading up' from the MkI erroneously supplied with my K200D.

The differences are slight, mainly to do with corner resolution, but as I got £40 for the MkI on ebay, I thought it was worth the extra tenner.

Super images cliff especially the 1st and last for me.The kit lens strikes again.
