Playing with my telescope

This far from the best that can be done with Jupiter. But it was an experiment with the DS. I used my 200mm X 1200mm reflector, and two 2X converters. That would be a total of 4800mm FL and F24.

My brother in law has given me his reflector. I've no idea what it is yet, but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that and comparing it to my refractor.

Here's a thing though; did you get into astronomy from photography, or photography from astronomy, or did you approach both subjects seperately?

I started with a slight interest in photography, but only bought an SLR to hang on the back of my telescope. Then I decided I wanted to do more with the camera and now spend more time with the camera than the telescope.

I started with photography. Then got interested in astronomy.
Now I build scopes to hang my cameras from.

Don't tell me....Pentax just didn't make long enough lenses

Well they only went up to 2000mm. And it is too hard to use at f13.

I approached both separately, then my camera and my telescope got talking one night, mugged me and stole my wallet.....

I have had a go at the moon but with only using my sig 70-300 on a tripod with a k20d This is about the best I have done so far but I am not expecting to get much better with the kit I have thou?

for a 300mm on a normal (non-tracking) tripod, thats pretty darned good!
