The latest version of PK_Tether has just been released. Still a beta version but it works ok on my K-r.

PK_Tether? Never heard of. Any link? What about the K-5, any info on that one?
Kind regards

This is a tethering solution for recent Pentax cameras. It is not official Pentax software and users do so at own risk. However it works fine on my K-r

There has been some discussion on dpreview.

Many thanks for that. will have a look. If you find that it works with the K-5 let us know, but will keep an eye on it as well.
Thanks for the link.

I found that it locked up after a photo or two with my K-x and both Vista and XP. And when it did lock, then the final image was made up of random noise.

You should send this comment to the developer as well as it may be a bug that needs to be locked at. If he does not know it may just carry over to the next release.
He seems to know what he is doing and I for once would have no hesitation, once the final is released to give it a go as this is one of the very few things that I miss on the K-5.

Pretty tragic that common functionality has to be provided by the community.
I hope there are red faces at Pentax

I am of the same thought but it may just pushes someone in Pentax to come up with the proper Pentax developed software as there seems a real demand for it.
I for one would even pay to get my hands on a proper fully working tethering program for my K-5

I've been trying that latest release with my K-5 (on Windows 7 64-bit) and it all seems to work fine, I'm impressed.
My own website is www.richardgaddphotography.com

Has anyone further worked with this program and the K5? Do you just use the Program on your computer and then the USB cable to the camera?
I really would like to work with tethering but would not know where to start and the PK_Tether Site does not give any information about how to set it all up and how it works (at least I can not find anything).

start the program on your PC after connecting the USB cable to the camera. Start the camera after the program. You may need to run the application as an administrator. There's no setup, it just runs.

and yes, it does work, especially if you've connected the K5 up directly to the laptop and you've also saved the .exe in a place that isn't the desktop - you can and should start it from another directory.

More functional than the Pentax version, that's for sure.....

With some luck the tethering program from Pentax for the 645D also works for the K5 but we are still waiting for that program so it can take some while...
