Forgot to mention this was done without using any cokin filters Just set the EV to -2 and a small aperture

Is it a single shot or layered images? Looks fantastic, but some of the edjes seem odd to me There seem to be three focal planes...
Rocks in front, rocks in middle and finally the waterfall...
Really nice shot Makes me want my K10 sooner...

I've been tied to my computer with video editing projects for days now...perhaps I've started having hallucinations, but honest Gwyn, I'm sure there was an image there ten minutes ago...

Now I'm really confuddled...
EDIT: Wait, It is back, and larger too?? and less of the multiple focal planes, I think the downsampling may have caused that...

Nice shot Pete but........
Just one major criticism, IMHO I think its a tad over exposed, the water looks to be completely burned out in places and especially in the centre, for me this just ruins an otherwise excelent shot, dont suppose you have any less exposed versions that you could clone the water from, Some burning out of highlights is to be expected in an image like this but that bit in the middle is just toooo white otherwise its a 10/10

Thanks Impo
I will have a look but the problem was I didnt have any ND filter sets. (must buy some) The lowest EV with the K10D is -2 shame it cant be set another few stops lower ???
It was a bright sunny day on saturday even though most of the image was in the shade (good job really) this helped a little.
I also used F22 (I think) to use less light.
Damm got to get some of these ND filter things.
Anyway shows what the camera can do under the circumstances.

We once stayed in the B&B just at the bottom of the falls and our lounge overlooked the scene you show. Very nice to hear the water and be able to take in that view with a cold glass of white wine....
I like your composition and colour but agree that it's too bright, especially top right. That part can be burned in but the overall exposure needs to be reduced.
The simple answer is to use manual exposure and just increse the shutter speed until you get the result you want. I can't envisage any circumstance in the UK where a correct exposure could not be obtained at 100 or 200 ISO.At ISO 200 it should be 1/250 sec at f16 for this shot, give or take, and making that 1/500 sec instead would have darkened things considerably.
Nice arrangement though.

The problem is not so much the EV setting or need for ND grads, at least not when the trouble area is in the center of the image.
The issue is simply that the camera cannot handle the range of light from the darkest object to the lightest object. Moving the EV down 2 is simply going to change where the exposure gets lost. If you lower it enough to expose the water properly, a lot of the remaining image will be dark shadows and possible lose most of its definition.
As far as adding grads, you would need some sort of center spot grad or centered grad (do they make such things?) to work around the big bright spot in the middle. You need to use bracketed exposures and some post production to fix that.
Most of the rest of the image is very nicely exposed. Lovely photo overall.

Thanks Guys
Interesting points
I think I made the mistake of using shutter priority set to 1/2 second to capture water movement. Maybe if I had set it a touch faster I would have still got the same effect with water motion.
Oh well still trying and learning I'll look out for that next time.
Cheers Pete

Blending two images is a very useful technique, you could have taken one shot as is and one underexposed to capture the highlights. Photoshop CS2 can blend automatically using HDR photography settings but it isn't too hard to do manually even in Elements.
