Hi I had a go on my friends version which is a bit old, I liked it because I could tweek the image's. I have decided I would like a programme. Can you advise me what the best magazine/ book or bookazine is good for beginners? Many thanks.

There are several good books depending on which version of Elements you will be using.
Scott Kelby books are good, if you like his style. Some do some don't.
The Missing Manual series are just that - they are a bit dry but cover pretty much everything.
It is important to get the book for the version of PSE you have though.

Have a look at http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/ too. You can join for a good magazine and stacks and stacks of tutorials. There is some stuff available to non subscribers too.

You can download a trial version of the latest version which is 11 here.

I would look for maybe version 9 or 10 which you will be able to get much cheaper. Don't go for anything below 6, and you will need 9 if you shoot in PEF rather than DNG.
Also keep an eye on Amazon next week - they have their Black Friday deals all week and often have a good deal on PSE there.

Another website for you for learning: http://www.photoshopelements.net/

EDIT: My mistake the Amazon Black Friday deals start today - so get to Amazon and keep an eye on things there.

Would you say version 10 of Elements is better then 11? Also how does Black Friday on Amazon work please?

Just had a look on Amazon, seems version ten is much more expensive then 11.

I've been using Teach Yourself Visually Photoshop Elements 10 by Mike Woolridge and Brianna Stuart, ISBN 9781118151730 which I bought on Amazon. Fanatastic book with lots of screenshots that take you through step by step and helpful tips for beginners and it only cost 11.

Hope this helps!

Has he done one for version 11, or isn't there much difference between the two?

I'm not sure - maybe check Amazon. But as Elements 11 is fairly new I would think not.

In my opinion there shouldn't be a huge difference between Elements 10 and 11 - nothing that you would really notice as a beginner and all the basic functions will be there. But I haven't seen Elements 11 as I've only just recently bought Elements 10!

I bought mine as a download for my Apple Mac for about 50. I think it's around 70 - 75 to buy in shops for PC's, although if you do a search on Google shopping you should be able to find the best price.

Check Amazon NOW !

They now have a special offer on Photoshop Elements 11, but only the bundled version with Premier Elements 11. They have the bundle pack for 49.99 until 28th Nov ! See the link below:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Photoshop-Elements-Premiere-Bundle/dp/B0090DQ980/r...

NOTE: This bundle price is much lower than buying Photoshop Elements 11 on its own and even cheaper than the upgrade version !!!

So you get Premier Element 11 for FREE PLUS a lower price for Photoshop Elements 11. So even if you don't want the video editor it is STILL the best buy !

Good luck

"Thanks have put it into favourites. What's the difference between Elements and Premier?"

Adobe Premier Elements is the cut-down version of Adobe's full video editing software, just as Photoshop Elements is the cut-down version of PhotoShop. (i.e. "Elements" is Adobe's shorthand for 'simplified/cut-down')

If you only want the Photoshop (stills editor) then the bundle is STILL the cheapest way to get it - just ignore the Premier (video editor) !

Hope this helps?

It is often cheaper to buy the whole package than just the upgrade in my experience. PSE 11 is not a huge leap forward over 9 or 10, just a bit of a tweak really, but at that price it is worth getting.
You can always ignore the video editing suite if you aren't likely to use it.

DOn't hang about too long deciding - I suspect it will sell out fast.

I got the 'dummies guide to...' it's OK but I was already using photoshop before I got the book. Now if I want to know how to do something specific I look on Youtube. There's loads of videos on there which take you through things step by step and you can always pause and rewind if you need to
