PHOTO TENT SOFT BOX LIGHT CUBES

As some of you will be aware, I have had a couple of unsuccessful attempts at replicating Amin's Bubble shots and Smoke shots. I was wondering if a soft light box tent would help? Any advise gratefully received

Soft box tents are great as they give a very even light all around the subject and they come in a vast array of sizes.

I don't think it would help you though, being a tent/cube it obviously has a top bit. My thoughts are that the top would get covered in smoke and it will make the shooting area smokey. Same with the bubbles, it would make it sodden with liquid.
Why not try making your own reflective area with white mounting card. You only really need it for the background and maybe the sides. Plus you will save your money.

I did have a go the other night and couldn't get the background colour right at all. Mind you I only have my macro ring flash (which I know is not suitable but thought it was better than nothing) and the camera flash at the moment. Maybe I better get a proper flash instead

You will need a proper flash as you know, as the ring flash will be no way near as powerful. You can get cheap flashes from ebay that will suit your needs

What does one need to fire an off camera flash gun?

You can use the pop up flash on the camera to fire the off camera flash

Tried that it didn't work. Either reflection or glare. Will check out EBay.

Get the wireless trigger sold on this site for 16 quid. Worked for me with a manual flash and then an optical trigger at 8 quid for the second gun.

RR has reservations that older guns might fry the wireless remote trigger but my 300v Vivitar doesn't is all I can say.
