Photo Books

Last year I used iBooks from Apple to make a book of my images and also the ADAPS Year Book. The quality was superb, but the price quite high.

This year I am trying out www.blurb.com having seen some very nice examples of their printing at the NEC.

I like it, John, both the pictures and the book layout. Very smooth operation.

Very nice indeed. Do you download their software or do you compose the book online? How good is the software?

You download the software and it works in a very similar way to Pictures2Exe but instead of making a slide show you make a book. When it's ready you upload the book. Mine had a file size of about 38MB.

There are lots of templates and page options, but I am of a mind that simple is best and doesn't distract from the images.

I did a wedding book last year for my pics of my neices wedding using Blurb. I went into it with eyes open as I'd read the quality was not top notch and pictures can be darker sometimes. That said I was very happy with the result. It took me a while to put it all together but it was worth it to see how happy she was. I did a hard back book with a shiny wrap around cover as the printed on cover had not so good reviews. I liked the standard wedding background they already provided so used that and the various ways of presenting each page gave lots of flexibility. The full bleed pages were good. I had a panorama that I split and put in a double page. For what you pay even now the pound is weaker blurb are very good value for folks like me, but if I was a professional wedding photographer I'd probably not use them as the quality is not perfect. I would use them again for family and friends gifts though.

The picture is actually of the gatehouse at Stokesey, and this view can be found by climbing the tower of the main building.

It's an interesting location and well worth a trip to see.

nice to see Ripon Cathedral in there too. Incidentally some of the criticisms of Blurb have been the black background not being perfect so see how yours comes out.

If anyone wants to see the wedding book I did let me know on here, my neice probably wouldn't mind me having it publicly visible, and the wedding was child free also.

I've seen a few examples of Blurb books and am thinking of doing one for me and my family.

Seems to have plenty of scope to personalise the book.

I'll have to see how it gets delivered - it wouldn't surprise me if it comes from some European printer.

You can pay in a variety of currencies. I paid in Sterling.

The book looks very nice - the layout and the pictures. Thanks for sharing - I even didn't know about such possibility (to compose and order a book printed) - it opens new horizons considering nice gifts for family
