Since P.P. finished I tried A.P for 6 weeks trial but found it wasn't as I remembered it from long ago. Can any of you out there recommend a general type photo mag. (Non specific) One that covers all general aspects of photography. Arty. Technical. Tests of new gear. Reviews. Interviews. Etc. Etc. There must be one out there somewhere?????

Check if your local library has an online magazine service, if you are registered as a library user online there is a range of titles for free as downloads together with alerts for each new issue. I get AP, Digital Camera, Digital SLR, as well as Gardeners World etc. TBH I just browse through them quickly on an iPad and read very little but it is handy if you are away or on a train just for something to read and saves a modest fortune. The only physical magazines I get are Outdoor Photography, with minimal equipment reviews and plenty of great articles, and the bi-monthly from my sub to the RPS.

You could pair The excellent Outdoor Photography with Photography News if you want equipment reviews. PN is distributed free to camera clubs (direct to members during the present Covid circumstances) and is available, free, on line.

Black and White Photography works for me but then it, self-evidently, caters for my primary interest.......and then, I’m shootings film.

I do also access AP through my library on-line service and have to agree that it’s not what it was when I first started reading it (1961).......but then what is?

Another vote for Outdoor Photographer. I would also suggest Black and White Photographer if that style of photography is of interest. I was along time AP reader but have ditched it, as it is a leading "Pentax is Doomed"
magazine with regular snide comments about Pentax.

Black and White Photography is really great, Outdoor Photography pretty good too. Unsurprisingly, they are published by the same company.

AP's sniping about Pentax has become particularly bad of late. They have bought into the mirrorless world in a big way. If it wasn't for interesting historical pieces by John Wade and Tony Kemplen I would ditch it too.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I concur about the Black and White Photography and Outdoor Photography mags being ace.

Magazines Direct last month had an offer on which was the next 5 mags for £5 so a pound a go including delivery! They hope you like what you're reading and keep the subscription going at the normal rate or forget to cancel your D/D. I spent a tenner and have the next 5 issues of Digital Camera and Digital Photographer coming. Worth checking the website frequently for offers. PS They also do non photography mags

Thanks all. You've given something to think about. I'll have a look at a few of them.

I suspect it's the other way about - the mirrorless manufacturers have bought into the mag. Most only manage to exist on the back of advertising revenue these days.
