Well Nikon call it VR, Canon call it IS, Panasonic call it Mega-OS, Pentax call it SR and Sony call it Super-Steady-Shot (I know the last two are in camera not in lens, but they perform the same task)chirpy wrote:

It's only the same as every other feature, every company has a different name for Sonic in lens motors, Apochromatic optics, Pro series lenses......
It's confusing, but it's life.

If not, what advantages does it offer to Pentax users over the soon to be discontinued 135 - 400, which is presumably cheaper (price of the 120 - 400 is not yet known, but I assume will be higher) :

Apparently, yes it will have a HSM (SDM) motor. But, it won't have a screw drive, so on older cameras it's MF only.

I'm suprised no-ones mentioned the Sigma 100-300mm EX F4 lens. I use this lens a lot and have to agree with a lot of the reviews that put it at the top of the list of zoom lenses for quality.

Looks like we will have to wait out. Pentax really should get good 2.8 zoom for us to use in the 70-200 or higher.
Its a bit of a annoyance that makes me think about switching cameras....

Tokina produce the 80 to 400 f4.5 to f5.6. it is interisting to note that Tokina is owned by Hoya! This lens is produced in a Nikon and Canon option! I wonder if we will see a Pentax version.

Acording to Photography Monthly, Tokina was born out of Nikon in the 1970s so that a group of disenchantes optical engineers could make zoom lenses. They were bought by Hoyer in the early 1990 and operate largely independently.
