Many thanks for the offer. I must admit I have gone away from the idea of using Word to start. The problem I had with puting the jpg's straight in acrobat was that, if you wanted to print them, you wasted half a rainforest as acro only printed 1 image per sheet. With most of the manuals (the LX is the major exception) I have found it best to scan the booklet open and so get 2 pages per sheet and it looks much better on screen. It might be better to scan each page and then combine the images vertically. The trouble is this is very long winded. 2 scans then create new blank image and cut and paste the 2 scans as selections. This would look better on screen and gets round the rain forest problem! This would also work for the LX and the small manuals such as the MX would yield 3 per page. Do you know of an easier way to combine 2 or 3 images in PSP8 or photoshop?

If you have the Creative Suite, you can use InDesign - create a custom page size to match the originals with spreads (ie two pages on view). You can place the JPGs using Ctrl-D, and when you produce a PDF you can choose how the spreads are represented in Acrobat. Most of the shortcut keys and palettes are the same as Photoshop.

Alternatively, layout for A4 and place the JPGs on the sheet. Don't forget though, that the US uses letter (8x11"), so personally I use a custom sheet size of 210mmx11" (so it will always fit on A4 or Letter). Again, you could use spreads too. If you select the master page you can place guidelines to help you set a consistent layout across all pages.

Hi there! I'm new to this site and haven't had a thorough look around but I just noticed this topic and thought I'd seek some advice.

I just bought a Optio S4i in Hong Kong but much to my dismay realised I have the Chinese version of the manual etc! I stupidly didn't check that!

What's the best way of obtaining the manual in english? I thought about just seeing if I could buy it cause I'm happy to do that if it's reasonably priced. I saw what Kim said about downloading it from the USA site but that might be difficult cause I don't have PC access at home, only at work.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

The Pentax USA link above will get you a poorish quality PDF manual. I have been promised a SFXn manual and if that arrives, hopefully I should have that scanned and ready soon. It should be better quality and in colour.
