Interesting... just be aware that ShareMap.org stores your IP address when you make an edit 
(Click on the clock = edit history)
Not a big issue, but thought users should know

I seem to be an idiot, but I can't work out how to do it. I added myself to the map, but then it will not let me save or close it without selecting 'discard the changes', which obviously removes me again??

No, it's not just you. I mucked around with it for about 10 minutes before I could get it to work. After pressing 'save' a dialogue box appears in the middle asking you to 'note changes'. Put your name in that then it should allow you to save.

Added myself, unable to save changes.
Paranoia rules, so I won't be disclosing my exact location when I am eventually able to add myself.
Some more verbose instructions may be necessary, "click edit and add yourself" doesn't do it for me.

You can choose the type and colour of the label, so I just gave it a try.....

No I haven't, TBH I didnt realise I could. If it means saving it myself every time someone adds themselves I won't. Life is too short as they say.
