Interesting... remains to be seen what the result will be.
Personally, I'd rather see more of the solid-build, high resolution, high quality pro-level DSLR (rather than prosumer). I'm wanting to push the *ist-D further (dynamic range and resolution) and am feeling the limits.

I expect this will generate some much-needed extra revenue for Pentax, and this will enable them to spend R&D money on better bodies.
I am sure Pentax will retain the name. I would expect to see Samsung cameras with Pentax lenses on them, and perhaps some shared bodies (with minor differences) being sold under both names.

That "soft jpeg" nonsense came from one reviewer, and personally if I were to shoot jpegs, I'll do my own damn sharpening in Photoshop, thank you very much.
Better to retain detail without artifacts than create an artificially "sharp" image which is permanently ruined!

Arthur, I quite agree with you
In fact, I don't even use the sharpening from Capture One even! I let it output "soft" images which sharpen up beautifully with some techniques in Photoshop

I do the same with the Adobe RAW converter; Photoshop has many more subtile sharpening techniques that give better results. In fact, I don't even use the sharpening from Capture One even! I let it output "soft" images which sharpen up beautifully with some techniques in Photoshop

I'm dissapointed that you lot didn't pick up the irony in my post.
Neverther less if Samsung can help Pentax to provide better in-camera processing it will help sales, and hence likelyhood of future products

They could call it Pen-sung. When companies merge costs are often cut. But the benefit goes into the share price not to the consumer. So if the consumer has to pay the price they'll have to call it Sam-tax.

Samsung seems to jumped ahead of the crowd with their newest digicam which is a convergence of a Dslr w/ P+S. Tho this is nothing new....12x zoom (largest in its class) and full manual capability is always nice!
