Only works on PEFs though T-Blurb - not other RAW formats like DNG.

PEF is pentaxe's RAW format, DNG is Adobe's RAW implementation this can download that from http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Codec but take note this is only a release candidate.

I wonder if they snuck in the Codec for the tba cameras while they were at it?
I doubt it, but it would make life easier when they do get those camera out.

Gwyn, it lists all the existing Pentax digital SLR models plus the 645D - nothing beyond.
That said, PEF is likely to have been a fairly constant standard for Pentax, so if future digitals from their stable stick with it, their PEF will be readable by Windows just as the current PEF format files are as of now.

I don't know, the difference between DNG and PEF now are very small file-size wise. That said, PEF is likely to have been a fairly constant standard for Pentax, so if future digitals from their stable stick with it, their PEF will be readable by Windows just as the current PEF format files are as of now.
They probably would leave you the choice for now but I wouldn't be surprised if DNG becomes the Pentax standard instead off PEF.

They change the format at times ... anyone with Photoshop Elements more than around 2 years old can read and process .PEFs from *istD series and K10D but NOT from K20D and K7. There is no Adobe update except - buy a new version.

Very true - I can read my PEFS from the K20D in PSE6 but not from the K-m.
I thought Pentax might do the decent thing at get the codec for the new cameras (if there are any of course :shock out before the cameras for a change.
I shall have to update PSE or switched to Lightroom or maybe to Bibble when I change cameras. More expense .

Adobe also have free downloads of RAW converters for most cameras, including K7, Km and Kx, as plug-ins for PSE.

I have the most up to date adobe raw converter I can have with PSE6. If I want a newer version of I have to buy a newer version of PSE too. Adobe are not stupid - you cannot infinitely update ACR. So when I get a new camera I shall have to buy new software too.
Hopefully Pentax will release the codec for the new cameras very quickly after they go on sale so that I can at least view my RAW photos whilst I wait for Adobe (or Bibble or whoever) to catch up.

Or simply shoot in DNG.you cannot infinitely update ACR. So when I get a new camera I shall have to buy new software too.
DNG isn't bounded on camera models like how PEF off the k10D are differnt then from the K20D. All DNG are sort off equal so no need for updates.

But DNGs are big in camera aren't they? Bigger than PEFs? Or is that when you convert from PEFs to DNGs in the computer?
I shall update the software eventually. I hope Adobe will announce PSE9 soon - they usually announce updates in September/October, though I am thinking about Lightroom.
Compared to the expense of a new camera the software is cheap.
