Why does it have to be a 12 MP sensor?
I'm waiting for K11D with the 11MP sensor!
It's just like 10MP but its one louder...

Maybe he's hinting that it's more than 12.

Or he could be stringing us along... not sure I'd bet either way, to be honest

Depends whether Pentax want to be a follower or a leader. They raised the bar with the K10D and others have responded, are Pentax up to the challenge, I personally hope so.

Megapixel talk makes me want to shoot marketing people

11 or 12MP from 10 is such a tiny resolution increment.

11% increase for 10-12 hardly seems worth it as the noise will go up.

Just give me a K10D with better noise characteristics (especially the blue chanel).

Indeed. From the 6 MP of the '100 to the 10 MP of the '10, you only get about a 30% increase in the linear dimensions.

To get the same increase again, you'd need to go to 16.6 MP.

Marketing is there to bring the product to the attention of a larger group of potential buyers. This is about selling DSLR's to non photographers, who will most likely never print anything larger than a 6 by 4. The differentiator to this class of buyer is the number of pixels.
If the Canikons have 12, 14 ,16 MPs, or whatever, then Pentax need to have at least as many to attract these buyers. The things that really matter to a photographer are secondary.
The part that some find it hard to accept is that for Pentax to survive it needs to capture a share of this market. These buyers fund the R&D that leads to cameras with features that real photographers want.
If Pentax have got their heads screwed on I would expect at least 3 possibly 4 DSLRs to appeal to; the beginner, advanced enthusiast, semi pro, pro market segments. Furthermore they should seriously think about bundling other products that allow easy manipulation and printing of the images that their cameras capture. Including a full Silkypix license would be a start. The benefits of this being two fold, 1. A clear differntentiator to attract beginners. 2. A pleasant initiation for beginners that leads to future sales of more advanced models.

Sorry chaps
It seems it was just the Optios this time. A lot of Hype on the Net about better things. Well two better Optios.
Hopefully the surprises Pentax.de are promising for the Berlin show will be more interesting to most of us here.

You all know that the K10 is a 10mp beast.
Yet you all wanted to here about the K11 and the K12! if they gave us 11 and 12 mp then i was about to sell my K10 and buy a K110!!!!
And why would any one want a K1D?????

One day you'll find, 10yrs have got behind you.

weird how they come up with these nameing schemes...the k100 was a 1000cc inline four, and the k1200 was the 1200cc version of the same engine. bmw also had a k1
maybe Pentax has been studying German?
