Agree the site should be 'family friendly' although I did not take any offence, and was particularly amused by Ken's foray into the etymology of the word itself. I think half the amusement was the shock of seeing that word on such a sober, clean-cut forum!
Why not let your son on the site with supervision Tony? (Without supervision he's be looking at far worse things the minute your back was turned)...

Had the remark been directed AT a specific woman with some intent to offend, I would not have found the remark funny at all... But I responded to it with a joke because I perceived it as a funny thing to say.
Humor should push boundaries and open up dialogs on subjects where people might be perhaps too easily angered. I chalk this up to perhaps a cultural issue.... I would not take offense to being called a clump of grass, but apparently in England calling somebody a sod is offensive... So I apologized for offending...

I doubt anyone would be offended by being called a 'sod' in the UK. Had the remark been directed AT a specific woman with some intent to offend, I would not have found the remark funny at all... But I responded to it with a joke because I perceived it as a funny thing to say.

It's normally used as term of tongue in cheek friendly ridicule. i.e "You silly sod!"
And even that is largely depreciated these days... The word sod is usually more often used as a method of describing throwing caution to the wind...
i.e "Sod it! I'm going to buy that £2,000 50mm f/0.7 lens.
I operate a no censorship policy on my forum. People use language as an expressive art form. 'swear words' and offensive are not mutually inclusive.
If one forum member told another to "go and make love to their mother" I would seriously have words with them, to the fact such insults are not acceptable. No swear words were involved.
'Swear words' IMO have an important place in language and to suppress them is to suppress communication.

The expressive art form used here is photography, pure and simple. The type of post on Smeggypants website would not be acceptable here, but what is over there is not our concern.
Our concern is that what happens here is in line with the forum policy and that everyone has a forum environment that is in keeping with normal conversation. Pushing of boundaries with humour and/or language can happen where it belongs, and that is not here.

Exactly. Like a pub one has to respect the wishes of each individual landlord.

Pentax is the little guy with solid products and a history of innovation...
This is not the time for Pentax to be conservative lest they become history.
They need innovations that will make history.
the 645-d with raw hd or 3-d video capabilities will make cinematic history and secure Pentax's place in a niche market that will really take off with film makers on budget.
as for tethering... Pentax needs have an ap on two or three smartphone platforms and it needs to be wireless, with live view and remote control and intervalometer as well as wireless connectivity to the computers...
it has to be a wi-fi card and software solution that is fast! Pentax remote, and silkypix combined into a ipad ap.
Pentax is too conservative for it's own good sometimes.
