I hardly think Pentax would take seriously a forum where the users use offensive language like Mowog's 'T' word which has precisely the same meaning as the 'C' word.

Thank you for that Ken. I'm glad I'm not the only one upset by that and the jokey replies to it too.

Gwynn, I honestly think that it is a word used without any knowledge of its true meaning; this from dictionary.com:
"The T-word occupies a special niche in literary history, however, thanks to a horrible mistake by Robert Browning, who included it in 'Pippa Passes' (1841) without knowing its true meaning. 'The owls and bats,/Cowls and twats,/Monks and nuns,/In a cloister's moods.' Poor Robert! He had been misled into thinking the word meant 'hat' by its appearance in 'Vanity of Vanities,' a poem of 1660, containing the treacherous lines: 'They'd talk't of his having a Cardinalls Hat,/They'd send him as soon an Old Nuns Twat.' (There is a lesson here about not using words unless one is very sure of their meaning.) [Hugh Rawson, "Wicked Words," 1989]"

I have just returned from my second day back at work, after the two week Christmas break. Every muscle in my body aches and all I want to do this evening is soak this ageing carcas in a hot, relaxing salts filled bath.
I don't want to get into an argument with anyone, tonight. I would just like to say that I enjoy swearing immensely. Swear words, like all words, are a means of communication. An especially useful and effective way of getting One's point across. I have never believed that old nonsence I was told as a child, that swearing shows a lack of intelligence and that using rude words is for the inarticulate who are unable to find better words to say. Cobblers to that!. Swearing is efficient, clever and effective use of language. You could blather away for hours, using nice, polite, bland language and nobody will take a blind bit of notice. Pepper your piece with a few well chosen bits of Anglo Saxon, and people will immediately sit up and take notice. That is good use of language, in my view.
I regret that a couple of fellow members feel offended by my use of what is a very mild and jokey swearword. It is because of such prudish attitudes that broadcasters now feel compelled to warn that "This programme contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature... And probably some flash photography, too" before anything other than bloody Teletubbies, now!.
Can't be arsed to correct any typos. I need my soak!.

Is this place to take the mickey out of dyslexic members or is it about photography

At least one of those taking the mickey is himself dyslexic.
Mowog - I don't mind a good swear on occasion and will use Anglo Saxon words too.
However, this is a public forum, with a wide range of members and as ken has pointed out the Terms of use do not permit such words. I found it offensive in this situation. I may not have done if you had shouted it at me for doing something incredibly stupid - though even then I think there are probably better swearwords to use.
It is a pity that this thread has taken the turn it has - it started out making a good point, which has now largely been lost.

I've never come across a word that I'm offended by. Sentiments on the other hand can highly offensive and you don't need to use words that some consider offensive to make those sentiments.

If you go into someone's home and they ask you to remove your shoes, then that's what you do. In your own home you do what you will, and you might just expect others to respect your wishes.
Let's be very clear that offensive language is not allowed on Pentax User and I fully agree with what what Ken has said above. Repeat offenders will face a possible ban.

Right!. I've had my soak. I feel unknotted, relaxed and ready to do a bit of priggish lecturing, myself.
We live in a world of injustice, corruption, disease, war and greed. There are a great many things for us to get offended and troubled about. The use of the "T word", as gartmore so childishly calls it, by an irksome (but incredibly handsome and well endowed) little Tit in North London, isn't one of them.
Because of the greed of Bankers and the incompetence of succesive governments, we in this country are going to be royally shafted up the jacksy, for the forseeable future. Many people are going to lose their jobs and homes in the coming years. Poor and middle income people are going to suffer badly.... Be offended by that!
We buy many of our cameras, accessories... And just about everything else, from a country that jails an Artist for seventeen years, for calling for a bit of democracy.... Be offended by that!
Every year, thousands of women and children are trafficked into this country, by merciless scumbags, to work as sex slaves. If you must get into a tizzy about something, why not that?
Many of our young men and women are being sent to fight a stupid and pointless war. Many are being killed. Many are coming home without arms and legs.... Be offended by that!
Yes indeed, People. There are many things to get offended about. The calling of an imagined person a T**t, in a light hearted forum post, shouldn't even come close. In fact, given all the other things to be offended by in this world, I'd go so far as to say that anyone who is offended by the "T word", has something seriously wrong with them!

Perhaps a cultural issue... I did not find the remark very offensive especially in the context it was said.Thank you for that Ken. I'm glad I'm not the only one upset by that and the jokey replies to it too.
I have never equated it to the "C" word.
But I see some are offended and do equate it to a nasty thing to say.
Sorry for offending.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Clearly mowog you are not listening, and seem determined to carry on in public. Initially a 7 day ban and we'll see if you're in a better mood after that.

I have a 9 year old son who I have bought an *ist DS, which he loves. And he often asks me about this "forum" that I am on. I would love that he could be on this, because you guys are great and I know would encourage him enormously, but I can't risk the (rare) slide into vitriol or obscenity.
God I feel old...
(Um...things moved on whilst I was typing. Clearly time for bed.)

Chester,

But do we have a right to be informed about what they intend next? I don't think so, although I guess their competitors would be very pleased to know!
