Pentax P30 (no cable release) - remotely releasing shutter?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area.
I have a Pentax P30 which I count as my favourite camera - or at least I used to, until I realised there is no thread for a cable release. Needless to say this causes problems, and in particular turns my newly bought 500mm lens into a useless piece of metal and glass. With such a lens it's virtually impossible to take a decent photo with my hands touching the camera - the only solution I can see is to use the self-timer, but needless to say this only works when the subject is completely stationary, and even then is far from ideal.

Essentially what I'm looking for is any advice or suggestions on how to "improvise" a remote release for this camera; any generic remote release that doesn't require a thread, or in fact any ideas at all on how to take photos without having to press the shutter button with my finger I'd be very grateful for any help; thanks in advance.

I don't know about the P30, but the P30T has a cable release socket on the side of the mirror housing, an unusual position that could be overlooked.

The self timer is, as you mention, another and effective approach in the right circumstances.

All the other options such a wireless remotes would require a cable release socket. I can't think of anything else you could do, unless there is some "Heath Robinson" device that has a lever that physically pushes the shutter release button. Actually, as I write that I think there might have been something like that intended for compact cameras....

I'm pretty certain there is absolutely no socket or thread for a cable release anywhere on the camera - the P30T (and presumably P30N) does have the socket as you say, and many many people on websites have referred to their P30T as simply a "P30", leading to intense confusion when I Google "Pentax P30" with "Cable release" and read about how someone used a P30 with a cable release when there's clearly nowhere to plug a cable release and they're never mentioned in the manual

(is it OK to hyperlink here?). This looks pretty useful, but since it costs $45.99 (not including postage to the UK, which I'm not sure is even available) I'll probably just buy a used P30T or P30N instead.

Actually that Heath Robinson affair looked like another I saw on the 'net. They took some modelling plastic (like plasticine that sets), made a model of the camera (it was a pocket digital), wrapped the gunk around it and built a little "holder" to put an old fashioned screw thread release on.

Time to get out the sticky backed plastic, velcro, and old washing up bottles

Jessops used to do a strap on velcro thing that took a standard cable release - but I don't have a current Jessops catalogue at present and the website is not very helpful.

I've just dug out my Speed Graphic catalogue - they do the "Kaiser Autofocus SLR adaptor" for £7.95 - basically a screw thread with a velcro strap - you position the thread over your shutter release button. Obviously it would work with manual focus SLRs without a standard CR thread

Jessops list a 'Kaiser AF adapter' under cable releases so that is probably the same thing
