And I don't really know what sort of answers you expected to your question. The cameras are much the same; the one with the better name sells for more money. There's not a lot more to be said, and if you have been in the game for thirty years you can probably decide much better than we can whether one or the other would suit you better.
Anyway, welcome to this sometimes irreverent forum.

As for the 3 smilies - the saying 'many a true word spoken in jest' comes to mind. Using smilies as smokescreen for rude comments won't work with me - words carry far more weight than cartoon characters.
Finally, I was not aware that 'blasphemy' against Pentax is not allowed on this forum. In the UK freedom of speech is still highly valued. If you are 100pc confident in Pentax as a brand then you shouldn't feel threatened by comparisons with other brands.
Surely the purpose of this forum is to enable intelligent discussion between people with something in common, namely, in this case, Pentax products. It would be a bit pointless if it were only some kind of self-congratulatory organ for people with closed minds.
It seems to me that you might find the style of DPReview more to your liking. We tend to be less earnest on this site.Quote:
As regards rudeness, a lot of people may consider it rude to join a forum for a particular brand then ask if they should purchase another, they may be a "similar" camera but they are definately different brands.
As I have previously explained, I have been using Pentax kit for over 30 years - that must surely say something about how I feel about Pentax products. As regards rudeness, a lot of people may consider it rude to join a forum for a particular brand then ask if they should purchase another, they may be a "similar" camera but they are definately different brands.

I hope this isn't considered a sacrilegious question, but can anyone tell me why I shouldn't upgrade to a Samsung GX20 instead of a Pentax K20D?
They are apparently technically identical, but the Samsung is cheaper.
No, I can't give you a valid technical reason anyway...I hope this isn't considered a sacrilegious question, but can anyone tell me why I shouldn't upgrade to a Samsung GX20 instead of a Pentax K20D?

I bought the Samsung GX10 & have found it excellent in everway, certainly have no experience to stop me buying another Samsung in future - badges aren't my thing, capabilities are

Corwynt,
I think you got some very helpful comments on this forum, at least as helpful as those you received on Pentaxforums. It is really not done to slag one forum off on another forum, certainly not naming names as you did.
I think maybe you have already decided to buy the Samsung and the replies you received at Pentaxforums support your decision wheras here we gave you answers you didn't want to hear - such as given the minimal price difference now but Pentax.
Whatever you choose to buy I hope you will be very happy with it.
Maybe if you climb down off your high horse and join in the generally lighthearted banter here you really will learn a lot because there are genuinely knowledgeable and incredibly helpful folks that frequent this forum, even if their answers come with tongue firmly in cheek at times.

I think everyone has had their say now and a line can be drawn under it.
Pentax and Samsung discussion is fine and always has been here. There is a reasonable connection to make it so. Likewise lens discussions cover Tamron, Tokina, Sigma and whoever else is relevant.
It's time now to move on.

Over the last few weeks Amason have been selling the GX20 twin lense kit for £716. A couple of evenings ago I started the ordering process on their web site. After I entered my credit card details and was about to press the order confirm button, my phone rang. When I retuned to my laptop a couple of miniutes later to complete the order the price had changed to £1,069.00.( a rise of 50%)
I emailed amason and then phoned them the next day. They said that Samsung had made a mistake with the price. I then looked at currys and dixons sites. They were still selling the same kit for £799.99. I was not keen on ordering it from either of them so I had another search on the web. After spending an hour on the webs and not finding it cheaper any where else I retuned to the currys and dixons site but to find that they both had increased their prices to £999.00. I phoned currys to try to find out what was going on but they were not prepared to give me a reason for the massive rises. I re-checked the Amason site and they have now changed it to £999.99 also. It looks as though there could be a bit of price fixing.
I was only going for the samsung due to the price difference but by not ordering it quickly, and dithering, it has cost me about £300. I have now decided to buy the K20 as it is the same price, but has a very good name.
I am new to pentax kit, has the Pentax better spec. ?

Both cameras are essentially the same, but the Pentax has an additional RAW format - PEF as well as DNG - and there may be minor differences to the menus.
