pentax optio E40 damaged screen problem

Hi Mick,
Welcome to the forum. I have replaced the screen in an M20. I would imagine the the process is much the same. Firstly however a replacement screen was going to cost £39 + postage for a camera that only cost £49.
I bought another broken camera (jammed lens) for £9 on ebay and set about the task myself, it took less than 30 minutes.
Remove the screws holding on the back (stick them to a strip of masking tape so they dont get lost) and note if any are of a different length, pull off the back and lift the screen out. Be careful where you put your fingers or you'll get a very nasty electric shock from the flash capacitor - I did - twice! The screen is attached by a ribbon cable and black and red power cables. The ribbon cable is incredibly filddly so I'd start with your original camera to get the hang of it. You'll have to de-solder the power cables. Re-assembly is the reverse.

I have unfortunatly managed to damage the LCD screen on my camera while having it in my pocket,subsequently there is a large black dot at the point of damage.The camera however still takes pictures it's that i just cant see them too well through the damaged screen.
My question is can i buy a replacement screen anywhere and does anyone have any idea of the cost involved or is there a standard fee if i send it back to pentax?
Living as i do in France i took it back to where i bought it from and they quoted 10 euro's more than i paid for it to have it repaired i.e. (throw it away and get another!!)
An address or number of where i may buy a new screen would be of great assistance
