Hi all, a response this evening to a query I placed on Pentax UK Facebook page...

Will Pentax be at 'Focus on Imaging' at the NEC this March please?

Pentax UK Hi Bill

We can confirm PENTAX will not be taking part in the Focus on Imaging 2012 show in Birmingham.

However, we will have some exciting and significant announcements to make in the months to come and we will be attending the Focus show again in 2013.

Oh! Thanks for sharing this! I'm so looking forward to that new mirrorless full frame camera with frisbee thrower everyone is talking about.

frisbee thrower? - oh that's a disappointment - I had heard flame thrower
No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

No, it's a Canon ball thrower

As an honorary brummie (I'm actually a derbyshire lad) I hate to admit it, Algi, but the world does not revolve around Birmingham!

Perhaps they'll choose to make their big announcements at the big Japanese and other international shows over the course of 2012! Time will tell but it sounds like a transformative new product line up will be in place by 2013 though, so next years focus on imaging will be worth a visit...

Don't forget it is a Photokina year too. They like to announce things for Photokina. I may be making the trip to Cologne again this year if I don't get a better offer meanwhile.

If at least one big Pentax dealer is at the NEC you'll hopefully get to see and buy the new cameras (and lenses) anyway. Focus on Imaging seems to be mostly about wedding photographers of late.

The mirrorless leaks seem to infer the new APS-C camera is about the same size as my KR anyway. Not entirely sure about the point of that as its bound to be slower autofocus with K lenses. Now an affordable replacement for the KR with a real pentaprism would get me excited! Much more real world value than more megapixels.

I can see the current sad line up at my local Jessops though! (Not interested in the compact offerings)...

I think we should wait and see on the new model. Personally I would take slightly slower (but more accurate) AF in exchange for better image quality, easier manual focusing, and lower price if I was in the marker for a camera right now...
