Pentax LX

Can anyone recommend a supplier for a Pentax LX Body.

Or let me know the relative merrits of the MX or ME Super if LX's are as rare as they seem !

MXs are very straightforward manual only cameras, well built, reliable easy metering, traditional speed dial, depth of field preview.

MESupers are Apeture priority or manual, but with button operated speed change in manual.

I personally prefer the MX to the MESuper.

If you can't track down a good LX, I would opt for the MX over the ME Super.
The MX is a more rugged camera than the ME Super, it only relies on batteries for the meter so you are less likely to miss that all important shot!

You haven't mentioned the type of photography you are interested in - if you require a motor drive, again the MX has the advantage witha choice of a 2 fps winder or a 5 fps motor drive (though these are now rarer thean LX's).

I use all three of these cameras on a regular basis, the LX is definitely my favourite but the MX is not far behind. This is not saying that the ME Super is anything other than a great camera - just a personal preference

Many thanks chaps. I have always wanted an LX since I used to work Saturdays in a Camera shop many (well 12) years ago. Currently have two Ricoh bodys (KR10X and XRX) but want something a little more rugged and manual.

Had come to simmilar conclusions on the MX ME Super debate with a preference on the MX. But the dream is still to get that LX !!!!

Ill let you know the outcome. Just have to persuade the Mrs about christmas spending now !!!!

Anyone know some where near Plymouth that may have LX's. Tried LCE who always used to be very good (and still are) who had an MX.

I own a LX body. I want to sell it, since I moved to digital photography (Canon). So I can't use my lenses, nor my LX body.
So I'm welling everything: lenses + LX-body . I have 3 Pentax non-af M lenses in excellent condition : 50 mm f 1.4, 28 mm f2.8, 85 mm f2.0
Anyone interested? :
Can anyone tell me which price I can make for these items on the second hand market?

LX-bodies are currently selling at about 250$
The price of a prime really depends a lot on the person buying it and the condition of the objectif.
I would say around 35 $ for the 28 mm, 50 $ for the 50 mm and 65 $ for the 85 mm.

I gave up and since then opt to stay with my MX (sent it to Pentax for an extensive overhaul before they stop servicing it ) and have since gotten two more MX bodies afterward, still the total less than the price of the LX also partly because every used LX I managed to come by several years ago seemed to have seen lots of use and some downright beaten up.

The major advantage of the LX over the MX is the ability to change the finder, aperture priority AE, TTL flash, autoexposure up to an incredible 6 minutes, mechanical shutter (without batteries) from 1/75 to 1/2000, brighter viewfinder, mirror lock, better seal, and presumely will take more abuse and last longer than the MX. It also is larger and weighs more than the MX. However, I never like the 1/75X flash sync speed and couldn't understand why Pentax could do it at 1/125X with the much older K2DMD but couldn't do it in the LX. The lack of exposure memory lock for such a fine camera is a mystery as well.

Well i got my LX in the end. Very happy with it so far, has a great feel and no problems. Just ran a B & W film through and just working my way through a Kodachrome 64. I am now keeping an eye out for a winder for my LX if anyone has any ideas. Seen a couple for around a £100 does that seem a reasonable price ?

Also, having been away from photography for a few years im a little out of touch with various films. What would you all consider to be the best quality slide and print films ? Always liked Kodachrome but it seems Fuji Velvia is well thought of, as for colour print im open to suggestions.

And finally can anyone recommend a good quality mail order d&p company. Many Thanks.

Kodachrome used to be my favourite, but the quality of processing has got worse and worse - I'm not so sure Kodak are the slightest bit interested in Kodachrome. It's increasingly common for Kodachrome slides to have a dreadful magenta cast.

Fuji Velvia has bite and intense colour - it can look pretty fantastic in our dull, colourless winter, and at the moment we are trying out Velvia 100. I guess trying out a variety of films is the only answer - find the one you like!

Velvia is fantastic for landscapes (and most other subjects) but not everybody likes it for skin tones. Sensia is not bad.

I agree, Sensia is a fine general purpose film.
I find the colours to be neutral (neither excessively warm or cold), resulting in very natural looking images - razor sharp too!

I'd use mostly Provia 100 and 400 in my LX. Sensia 100 is allso nice. For landscapes and speciatly tones of blue Velvia 50 is maybe the best there is.

Got some Kodachrome back the other day and was actually quite impressed. I think ill try Sensia & Velvia next to test the hype.

Another quick question does anyone have for sale or know where I can get a Grip B for my LX. Seen a couple of Grip A's but the B's look nicer, any thoughts.
