Pentax litium battery not working properly.

Can someone help me please? I have a battery which came with my pentax K30 camera since last Christmas and it came with charger and pentax battery.

When ever I charge it, a green light comes on which then turns off after a few seconds which is a pain in the back side. The battery was almost empty, so I know it wouldn't be ready yet. I usually put the battery into the charger with a soft click.

I told a friend of mine and he said it was because I hadn't been letting the battery run down and probably that the battery could be weakening, but I went into the camera shop and they said this wasn't likely.

Can you tell me if this could be my chrager, or a bettry problem? One bloke said there could be something wrong with my camera, which I don't think so, or it wouldn't work.

Batteries do need proper care and charging routines, but it isn't necessary to let Lithium cells run down completely.

Maybe there's a charger fault, it does happen, but maybe the battery has reached the end of its life. I understand 1000 charging cycles might be expected. Towards the end of that efficiency will tail off gradually.

How to find out is perhaps to buy a new battery or try charging your own battery in another copy of the charger unit. Maybe the shop would let you use a charger? Or send it to someone to charge for you? Anyone near Salisbury who would give AuraTodd's battery a charge to check it out?

Already? Only had it since last Christmas, will get a spare one, but will take it to shop and see if they could test the battery.

Can you recommend a realisble spare lithium battery please?

If its less than a year old, get back to the shop with it ASAP and get them to sort it out under its warranty.

WEll I got it from SRS Microsystems which is in London, do I ring them up? I don't know to contact them.

If necessary I could lend another battery and genuine Pentax charger as I have spares after getting the k-30.

Would have be by post as I live in W.London though!

Don't even think about posting a battery without fully checking the Royal Mail Ts&Cs about packaging.

They are getting to be a real pain. A friend sent an empty lighter case back for repair - RM destroyed it even though when accepted by the Post Office they knew what was it in and completed the form.

Aura, you can get unbranded spare batteries from eBay and 7dayshop. Very cheap and work acceptably well as a spare (I've never had any problems) and at least you could check to confirm whether it really is your battery at fault, or something else.

It worked after I pushed it in a couple of times, but I will ring them up and see what they say. Thanks jeallen01 that's very kind of you, but I think Royal mail woud probably dispose of it.

They destroyed a heart monitor once my friend so vitally needed, before the hospital sent her one in person.

Make sure the battery contacts on the battery and in the camera are clean. A normal pencil rubber is pretty useful for cleaning the battery contacts, especially those that are made to look like a pencil.
