The 7dayshop battery is unbranded and described as being for Konica and Minolta, but is also compatible with the K10D and K20D:

I have 2 spare batteries from 7dayshop for my K10D and so far, after 8 months use, they are still going strong. Admittedly they are not quite the same output but I have never noticed there to be any difference in how long they keep their charge. I would not hesitate to buy them again should they die unexpectedly, which I don't envisage any time soon.
I wish I had a mum like that though, lucky *!!* thing.

and MattMatic, wow, the website rocks
Thanks
Definitely check out www.ephotozine.com - tons of good images, advice and techniques there (It's run by the same folk as this one - so you're in good hands there).

Do you think it would be better for me to buy all these things now,
or when the christmas sale's on ?
Why don't you phone up Chris and have a chat with them at SRS?
They're decent enough to tell you if there's any suspected drop in price... but given how quickly the K20D's sell at the moment I would be surprised if they got any cheaper!! Especially with the current cash back offer from Pentax

Let us know how you get on

re: the batteries. Sorry for not doing a search--rookie mistake! At first, I thought the £4.99 was a typo
Still, it opens things up quite a bit to know that the Minolta batteries are compatible. Thanks again !

Pices91 - just a thought! I'm not sure the SMC-DA 16-45 is covered in the Pentax cash back You may have to go for the SMC-DA 17-70 (which is rather tempting!!) - that's definitely covered.

But Chris @ SRS will help you on that

If you don't mind a refurb, you can get a K20D with 16-45 for £549 here, but don't forget if you buy new with any new Pentax lens there is a £100 cashback promotion on at the moment!

Other recommendations

Batteries from 7dayshop @ £4.99 as mentioned.

Sandisk extreme III 4gb card @ £13.99 here. With free delivery!

Go for the slingshot 200 over the 100, your a girl after all, and if you saw what my missus had in hers....OR alternatively if you do like the style I recently changed my slingshot for a fastpack, same idea just with 2 straps (one over each shoulder) instead of the one which crosses over, which for a girl maybe uncomfortable (Fiona does moan about hers because of this!). Not to mention, it's available in 3 colours and carries a laptop! Here.

As for a tripod, wait until you have your kit, know what you might need it for if you need one, make sure it can EASILY handle the weight of your kit, and preferably get out to a camera shop and try them out.

Once you have your kit, ask for some books for Christmas then practice, practice, practice!

Best of luck, and welcome to the forum!

Forgot to mention, noticed that you are in Northwood, so get down to Watford and go to SRS!

Agree with Matt re ephotozine with regards to some great images and techniques but the forum is very bias towards Canon and Nikon and any mention of Pentax or other makes is met with flippant or rude comments. (At least that is my experience, others may differ). I tend not to join in with the forums on there for this very reason, which is a shame as there are some very knowledgeable folks on there.

Unlocker, thanx I think I will get down to Watford in two weeks or so
i'm so busy this weekend :'(

um, it may be way better for me to see the actual camera before deciding firmly also.. for the camera bag

Hazza, I haven't had a proper look at the website, just added it to favourites.. Maybe I'll just need to read some advices and forums about techniques and stuff but not really get involved..
Thanx for your advice !

By the way, I'm from South Korea and there are a lot of people who just worship canon and nikon and don't even care about Pentax . . .!
but looking at the photos taken and the specifications and so on, I think pentax is awesome

Nevertheless, Canon and Nikon are very good also, with no doubt

I actually considered buying Canon 20D, Nikon 80D or Sony A350 as well before deciding to buy Pentax K20D
When I saw the colours Pentax K20D, I couldn't even think about the other cameras !

A very wise move! It's always good to get a "feel" for a camera before buying it and SRS are very well stocked when it comes to Pentax bodies and lenses. I was in there last week and they had quite a good selection of bags and tripods too so that'll be helpful in deciding.
