Very hard decision it is !

So I'm gonna use what I'm buying soon for a long ! time
That's why I'm being so fussy about every element but you know, it's hell lot of money

I'm thinking ..
- Body+16-45mm Lens (Probably this kit) - UV Filter and Hood if not included
- Extra Battery
- 4Gb or 8Gb SD/SDHC Memory Card (which one ? i dunno.. )
- (Possibly) Tripod for nights - any recommendations?
- Camera bag . . thinking about Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW
- (Maybe not) Flashgun
I think your list is a good one - the K20D + 16-45 will make an excellent combo to start off with (you'll get a hood thrown in, I personally don't bother with UV filters as a rule).I'm thinking ..

An extra battery is an absolute must-have in my book.
As others have said, two smaller cards would be better than one big one (either 2x 4GB or 2x 2GB or 1x 2GB + 1x 4GB).
Tripods and flashes will both allow you to expand your creative possibilities in more ways than an extra lens would - you'll almost certainly end up with both at some future point but if I could start with just one or the other then I think the tripod would be my choice (the camera does have a small flash built-in that will do for starters).
With camera bags I think it would be wise to buy a larger one than you think you need - you'll very soon fill that extra space with extra bits and bobs and larger ones don't usually cost a lot more than their smaller brothers and sisters.
Can you do it for £800? Let's see...
K20D + DA16-45 £695
Spare battery £4.99
Two 2GB Sandisk Ultra II SD cards £9.49
Lowepro Nova 2 camera bag £16.99
Velbon Sherpa 550R tripod and 157Q head £59.95
I make that a grand total of £786.42 - add in a bit of postage and I reckon that'll just about be £800 give or take a few quid.

I've bought my Sandisk Extreme III 4Gb SDHC cards from www.picstop.co.uk - excellent service and stupidly low price. Have three of them, plus three of the 2Gb Haven't run out yet

Heavier bag + more contents = more strain on your back and shoulders. Maybe I'm a weakling, but I have enough trouble with the weight of stuff I fit in the 100.With camera bags I think it would be wise to buy a larger one than you think you need - you'll very soon fill that extra space with extra bits and bobs and larger ones don't usually cost a lot more than their smaller brothers and sisters.
You might intend only to use the extra space of a larger bag for lightweight bits & bobs, but you'll be temped to carry more lenses as well.

Nonsense. Just stuff it in there, man! K10/20D fits in the main compartment whatever you have in the other compartments.

Pete, you're probably right. I have a mental picture of it with the grip!

I agree that the tripod is a good addition--and if you are into night shots, it's a must.

Spare battery £4.99
Wow, is that for a genuine Pentax battery, or are the others as good? Or for that price, is it for 2 9 Volts duct-taped together?

Point taken, but the Nova 2 I pointed the OP to isn't exactly huge. I'd think of a minimum size being something that could carry a body, 2 lenses, spare battery, memory cards, flashgun, cleaning cloths, filters and a remote - that should cover most eventualities! I have 2 bags - one huge one that can carry pretty much my full kit, and a smaller one that fits the description I've given above. I tend to carry the second one most of the time and just bring a couple of lenses depending on where I'm heading that day. I'd really struggle to live with anything that offered much less stowage space though tbh...

No that's not a genuine Pentax battery, Farfisa, but it is almost as good.

Genuine Pentax for £4.99? Not a chance! Wow, is that for a genuine Pentax battery, or are the others as good? Or for that price, is it for 2 9 Volts duct-taped together?
It's a 3rd party one which many people on this forum have bought and it seems quite satisfactory (although it's rated slightly lower in mAh than the real thing). I'd rather have a real Pentax one but at 1/10th the price it makes a compelling case for itself...

Just a final question,
Do you think it would be better for me to buy all these things now,
or when the christmas sale's on ?

Ha! Figured as much. I'd be interested to know the brand name (or lack thereof!)--I've been nervous about using anything else in my K10D. My spare battery is currently in the form of a K100D with eneloop rechargeables, so as you can imagine, it's not the lightest solution farfisa wrote:

Pentax UK has a rebate on until January 31st 2009, so no harm in waiting, I suppose! Good luck and enjoy!

I'd be suprised if any of these items get any cheaper this side of Christmas to be honest, however, being suprised by things isn't uncommon for me! Just a final question,

If it was me I'd want it all as soon as possible so I could get some practice in before the xmas / new year party season starts. Also, I'd know what little "extras" I'd be wanting for Christmas presents...

I don't think they are branded, however, I bought my spare before I discovered the 7dayshop ones and paid £20 for a Hama branded battery. I'm sure someone who actually owns one will be along soon enough...
