Pentax K5

Have recently noticed a red flashing light on the rear of my K5, just to the right of the Auto ISO (green) button. The main display info panel also flickers in unison.

Can't find this in the manual, does anyone know what it means? How to switch off?

Camera is functioning correctly.

Looks like you might have inadvertently set the camera for 'remote release' Press the timer button (top of the 4 on the 4-way controller) and see which option has been selected. The camera will still take pictures normally in this mode using the shutter release button; however I think that the SR function might be disabled

Well that bit is not normal, I don't think so? I'm not aware of the LCD display flickering in any mode, certainly not in unison with the remote indicator. I'm a K7 user, but the K5 is identical is these respects AFAIK.

The numbers could flash ... though not in unison with the remote indicator.

Theoretically it's possible that they 'flash' in sync.
When LED is on, there is less power available for the LCD and it will be a little less bright. And when the LED is off, there is more power available and the LCD will be a bit brighter.

You can compare it to a car with a faulty ground / earth; switch the indicator on and another light starts flashing / dimming in the rhytm of the indicator.

One possible cause for the above can be a battery that is reaching end of life. And another one a bad ground (as described).

Please note that this is a / my theory.
