pentax k5

Hi all has any one upgraded from a k20d to a k5 if so what you think i ask because i want a faster camera (capture rate )to use to take motorsport photo,s i like my 20d but find i am missing some of the action as its to slow only 3 frames per second advice and info please

Hi Phil, I had a K10 and a K20. I upgraded the K10 for a K5 (Kept it as a spare body. The K20 was never a favourite so I traded it in for a K30. The K5 is an amazing camera, the video quality is very sharp even in quite low light. The image quality at high ISO levels is to be seen. However the K30 has a real edge on the AF speed and I wonder if you`d be better with that than a K5 for motor sport. Maybe someone with a K5ii can offer some thoughts.

I had the K-7 (same sensor but faster burst rate) and upgraded to the K-5iis. What a difference, I was staggered. You'll need a fast lens for motorsport though ,something like the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. It's my go to lens at the kart track.

The K30 will blow you away, coming from a K20D. The K5ii will surely be even better! But the K30 may be good enough and is amazing value.

I've owned a K-30, K-5 and now a K-5 IIS and K20D (as a backup). I can honestly say that the low light AF, SR and above ISO 800 IQ is vastly better on the newer bodies. I bought the K20D as a second body for outdoor use. Of course the K20D is still very capable if the shortcomings are taken into consideration. I think you'll find a K-30 or K-5 a good upgrade.

I did the K10D to K30 upgrade. When i did the first indoor test shots it was as someone else said "blown away". Proper night and day difference. I just couldn't believe how good the images were even at 6400 and 12800iso. Basically matching what the K10D could do at 1600iso.

And the responsiveness of the camera is something to behold. I think you'll find the K30 plenty fast enough for motorsport, i've not had any problems. AF is pretty snappy and 6fps is plenty fast enough.

I miss a few of the external controls from the K10D, the Info button is good but not a substitute for buttons and levers. And especially miss the rear AF button for back button focusing.

thanks for all your advice i will go along to lce in worcester and have a feel of the k5 & the k30 but i think the k30 may well win
