I apologise if I am bringing up a well trodden path with this one but would love to hear from anyone who was undecided between these two and why they went for one or the other, also anyone who of course has an opinion on the merits of either.

Oh John Riley, where art thou !!
Missed a cracking D200 but like the K20 weatherproofing and shake reduction so hung back.
I would be grateful for comments on these two/

Basically you're in the wrong place for such a discussion. This is a site for Pentax Users, so the likelihood that anyone has actually made this very specific choice is slim. In addition, if they are here on this forum, as they presumably also chose the K20D, I don't see where this could really go.

ePHOTzine might be a better place for such a discussion, but even so it's a pretty specific option choice and not I would imagine one that will bring in many replies.

Smeggypants is quite right in that we don't pursue discussions of other brands on Pentax User, only because we are aimed as a resource for Pentax Users. There are similar quite specific sites for other marques, although not so lively always as here.

Not correcting you Donald, just wondering what you're getting at, but in fact it may be because you're thinking of buying the K20D on offer in Classified Ads. You need have no fears about the quality of the model. I still use one and it produces superb images.

The difficulty is you're unlikely to be able to make a comparison - I'm guessing you also have an option elsewhere to buy a Nikon D200?

I'm sure it won't make you decide any quicker though.

Thanks Mike, clear winner but then I end up comparing it with others and always end up at the K5,not sure how I can get a K5 past her indoors. K20D and the other "one" in the title are weathersealed and available for a lot less than K5,would love one but cannot risk incurring the bad side of the domestic department, hate ironing

I looked long and hard at the D200 when I was looking at the K10. The ten won hands down. A few years later I met a fella with a D200 and he said looked long at hard at the K10 when he was lookin. We swapped for a day to play. I still feel a little unclean
One day you'll find, 10yrs have got behind you.

I have heard rumours of other camera brands...................

Given that the K10D and the D200 share the same sensor with different clever bits behind/along side I reckon in terms of iq alone the K10d would be a better comparison - just my opinion though
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

On reflection, I do have one anecdote. We were on Skye with friends and came across a derelict house. One room was inaccessible apart from pointing the camera through a small gap into the dark interior.

Our friends, both with D200 and D300 cameras, were totally defeated and the cameras would not focus or give a usable exposure. The K20D had no problems whatsoever and delivered a correctly exposed image of the hidden interior.

I think you should buy the Nikon, it has a faster top shutter speed and will probably focus quicker, it will also leave more Pentax lens bargains available for the rest of us
