Pentax K100 - Autofocus not working

Hi, i purchased the k100d five months ago, everthing was fine until this morning, the autofocus its not working at all, i searched every possible setting, everything seems fine and i can take pictures normally on manual focus.

On autofocus the camera makes the usual autofocus sounds but i never hear the focus beep. It keeps trying to focus but no no avail. Im getting quite worried and im wondering if the case to contact pentax support? anyone had the same prob

Hi and welcome to the forum.

First, check that focus confirmation sound is turned on in custom settings.

Do you get the focus confirmation beep when focussing manually? You should hear it.

Do you get the focus confirmation hexagon in the viewfinder? You should see it.

Have you checked that the AF-S/AF-C/MF switch is set to one of the AF settings?

Have you removed the focussing screen for cleaning, and perhaps not refitted it correctly?

Try resetting the camera to factory defaults, then try again. Also check that your camera has the latest firmware installed. To check this, turn power off, press and hold the menu button, turn power on. The version number 1.02 should appear on your rear screen.

Phew! Apparently the problem was the batteries, i have overcharged them and they were immeditely depeleted once i used them, i still was able to use the camera for almost half an hour and taking pictures on manual but apparently the AF needs a good battery supply

im going to get rid of this cheap charger and get a decent smart one!
