I bought the shorter zoom twin lens kits from DSG (Currys,PC World, Dixons etc) for my KX puirchase. I paid £549 back then so value improves doesn't it?

The replacement (black) KR from SRS early May this year came (back in may with the metal bayoneted quick focus ring MK II 18 - 55. £429 the pair Much better.

My son kndly bought me the proper DA 55 -300 for Christmas, much nicer again than the plastic bayonet DAL kit lens and certainly a finer set of optics than the 200 version in Dixons/Currys kit..

I have been told by many people that the optics are the same... only differance being the plastic mount.. quick focus and you do'nt get a lens hood.. i have bought two lens hoods to fit the dal lenses for under £20..
Plus i have just bought a Dal 55-300 lens complete with lens hood and UV filter for half the price of a Da lens.. Value for money is what i look for..
Regards Chris..

Thanks, (must have read my Bio)

I'm just putting the September issue of HORIZON Magazine together for Radio Caroline. If any members have their own attributable photos of the Radio Caroline (or any other)ships or presenters from any of the eras we'd be happy to print them AND give a plug to them and this Forum.

Please please please...Dont purchase your Kr from Currys.. They will offer you a great sales price and deliver the very next day. But if like me later in the cameras life If you have a problem. Their after care service absolutely stinks. I wont go into my personal experiences,

Buy from Mathers of lancashire..Pentax pro centre. 2year warranty, equal if not better service and prices as SRS

Not got time to read the replies just yet but I have another question that I need to post before i go out tonight k-r or k-x? I've read a review that compares them both and it suggests the latter is better? 380 quid for the twin lens kit!

Thoughts? and thanks again for the replies, I'll reply when I get a chance tomorrow.

Cheers.

I've owned both, the KR is better across the board, faster frame rate, much better live view, higher ISO, better HDR with matching of image alignment, focus points in viewfinder, better auto focus, better exposure control, better body grips, better LCD screen etc

If you do buy the K-r from DSG check the firmware asap.

The one I got from Currys a few weeks ago was on v1.0... now on 1.11 after the upgrade.

I'm extremely pleased with the camera and lenses, although the DSLR controls and RAW processing is a steep learning curve for an old boy like me

the kx was the better VALUE when the kr was first released, but now that the kr has been out for a while and street prices have dropped..... I'd say buy the kr if you can, the kx if the price difference really matters...

the kx did not suddenly become a lousy camera, it is still every bit as good as it ever was, and if your kids need new shoes, then pass on the kr, if not, the kr is worth the price difference.
Does that help?
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

If you switch the camera on whilst holding down the menu button the firmware version will be displayed.
Best regards, John
