Pentax K-m for dslr newbie?

Hello I'm a lucky man, my gf has offered to buy me an SLR for my 30th! I have played around with a few in the shops, want something small as my other hobby has lots of equipment which is why I got rid of my EOS620. Not totally new to SLR's, just been away for a few years playing around on small digis. Its not the same, I still scan my film images if I am looking for images to print! The K-m (K2000) seems by far the nicest to hold and just feels so much more compact than canon or sony offerings and as small as the Olympus E420. I like the simple menu screens, reminds me of my first Optio s30 so hopefully will get the GF use to using it too! The only slight hesitation is the missing focus indicator. Is this really a big issue? Never had on my film SLR's, just select spot focus and recompose. Is there anything else I should be aware of against the competition such as Nikon d60 etc? The reviews seem so mixed, mags seem to like them, online reviews slate it a bit so a little confused! Thanks for any advice! Greg

What I meant to say was that the focus indicator hasn't caused my daughter any problems, but as it appears we cannot go back and edit posts I've had to post again to correct my typo

have a K-m - had it for ooh about 2-3 months now....... love it....... keep thinking do i spend more on something else, do i upgrade to this or that........... live view isnt important to me, as i am quite capable of looking through a view finder........., have bought a few bits and bobs since had it though including a siggy 120-400...... got some really good shots from it, don't be put off by all the "entry level" stuff......

I was lucky enough to get a D-SLR for my birthday this year as well. I got a K200D , but if I hadn't managed to do that I probably would have gone for a K-m. The build quality felt *much* better than the A200, and more solid than the D60.
