Pentax K-30 in depth review

I am not an expert, nor do I make any claim to be but; having 'upgraded' from a K-x to a D7000 I endured 4 months of general disappointment ( I did not get on with it, finding it clunky, not at all intuitive & it had to be returned to Nikon for a 'reset' as images appeared flat and lifeless. This afternoon I was grinning from ear to ear with my new K30, what a pleasure to use and the quality of the images, fabulous.

Whilst there may be happy Nikon users out there I can only assume they have never used a Pentax ( and for those that use both brands that is meant slightly tongue in cheek)

From my personal experience if anybody is thinking of moving to the 'dark side' think again. There are many positive comments elsewhere on this forum regarding SRS, and yes, they are a pleasure to do business with!

now i am a newbie to slr photography my k30 is my first.

now why did i buy into this format and not others who have a much bigger range and market share.

its simple i like the streamlined range pentax has the others seem to have cameras all over the place with no defined range so to speak.

pentax is quite clear with its range of cameras as to which suits who best.

also the great backward compatibility and the fact that i turned my pc on today and it hasnt been replaced by the k40 allready.

time moves a bit slower at pentax which sometimes is no bad thing. gives all plenty of time to explore the full potential of our toys before we are tempted by there new offerings.

i'm happy in the knowledge that my pentax k30 will help me and guide me with its fully automated modes. and when the time comes to turn the dial it will hold my hand and reasure me. do not be afraid it will say because ive learnt you well.

this takes time and with pentax i have because im not gonna be craving its replacement. because in a world of constant upgrades pentax for has struck the balance just right.

two years it took me to finally buy an slr. countless reviews and articals of everything everyone has to offer and i ended up here. with you guys and gals.

Warren, that might be the most insightful post about why someone chose Pentax I have ever read. It can be overwhelming when amongst all of the competitive rhetoric bandied about. Sometimes it helps to be reminded.....from someone who is new and sees things objectively.....of the benefits of slower progress when making products. Nicely done!

Hear Hear! Someone is talking common sense! Well done Warren, a great post and a truly un-biased assessment of why you bought a Pentax DSLR. I hope the camera gives you years of great service and I'm sure it will. I have a K-x that was 2 models previous to the K-30 and I still love it and use it all the time, even though I also have a K-5. There's very little that the K-5 can do that the K-x can't and the image quality still looks great to me. Things naturally progress, but the Pentax way suits me just fine, as it clearly suits you too.
