Pentax istD Problem

Posted 10/10/2011 - 09:57 Link
Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem I have with my Pentax istD. When I switch on my camera, it takes a while for anything to come up on the LCD screen on top, and seems not to have seen the memory card as it doesn't come up with how many photos I can take. Also, I am unable to bring up the MENU on the rear screen. I'm fearing the worst, but has anyone else has this issue and been able to fix it?

(I am using freshly charged batteries and a new CR2016 battery)

Not had any issues with either of my copies. Have you tried a different memory card or that it's properly seated? Just tried one of mine without a card - brief flicker of battery strength then blank. So I think it's related to the card being detected and/or read.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can still use the camera (auto focus works, etc.) with or without the card inserted. I had thought it would be an issue with the card (or slot) but found it strange that the menu functions were unavailable too.

Does it show anything on the rear screen at all?
Certainly worth trying a different card if possible. Is this a card that previously worked?

Try removing the card

All should work well without a CF card. If not - there'll some kind of issue.
If still a problem, try removing both sets of batteries for a few hours to let everything reset.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It is a card that previously worked, and I get the same thing with it removed. I have tried leaving the batteries out and that hasn't changed anything.

I've also tried using the remote assistant software and that doesn't see the phone at all.
