I love the way the rain had bought out the colours. Well worth getting rained on.

Really nice set. My selection is the second. I imagine that style of garden is at its best in the rain.

Wonderful set. What a great place to take pictures...even in the rain!
Best wishes,

You say it was a miserable day but what great photos you got out of it. The colour is so rich and the pictures have real atmosphere. I just can't believe Nikon and Canon don't have weather resistant cameras.

I remember watching a program where Ray Mears was stood in the pouring rain in the wild, photographing brown bears with a D700 and 300mm f/2.8. The kit was dripping wet.I just can't believe Nikon and Canon don't have weather resistant cameras.David
Then this guy link does his best to destroy one. The top Canons and Nikons are all weatherproofed. Not sure why you think they wouldn't be?
An excellent set of images above!

David, K10D, Algi, Stuey & Iqbal - thank you for taking the time to comment, much appreciated !
K10D - Yes, the top Canon / Nikons are WR however it is the degree to which they are water / weatherproofed that is interesting. I saw a comparison between the 7D and the K7, the 7D has fewer seals and those seals are not of as good a quality (being compressed foam) as the K7 (being rubber). The first time I've ever seen an explanation as to why the WR on Pentaxes is better and maybe a reason as to why it is marketed as a feature whereas on the Canon / Nikons it isn't.

I'm sure 7D users will be well pleased to learn that a 7D is a "top" Canon camera. I don't see it quite like that. I can confirm that my Nikkors have rubber O ring seals on the lens mounts. That aside, I have never bought a camera due to weather sealing properties being high on my list of requirements.
My istD has done sterling work in the worst desert environments and never missed a beat along with my Sigma 70-200mm Mk1.
I wonder how many Pentax users would give up weather sealing for better, faster AF or a decent non WR long telephoto.
My K7 is better sealed than my D7000 but no better than my D700. It doesn’t matter. Other factors do.
As an afterthought, it's all ambiguous, if it was done properly, the cameras would have IP ratings and as far as I'm aware, they don't.
Best regards

7D - since it is used by so many Pros I think we can safely call it a top camera - whatever it costs. It doesn't have to be FF to be top class (whatever your definition is).Frogfish wrote:

You may wonder how many would swap their WR for faster AF but do you also wonder how many chose their Pentax just because it has WR and that gives them peace of mind in inclement weather etc. ? It may be of little concern to you that your Pentax has WR but you only have to scan the threads here and on other Pentax sites to know that many people place this feature high on their list of desirable features.
Some more interesting threads on this subject :
This one is D700 vs 5D Mk II and has a link to a 25% failure rate for the Canons used on one trip : http://prakashphotography.blogspot.com/2009/02/nikon-d700-vs-canon-5d-mk-ii-weat...
This has a nice comparison on under US$2,000 WR cameras : http://www.neocamera.com/article.php?id=weathersealed_dslrs

Most of the time I had the DA*300 on the K5 but on occasion I also got out the K7 (with an non-WR Tamron 17-50 on it - and a plastic bag over the lense ).
I have to say I was feeling pretty pleased with myself as the rain came down and I strolled past a handful of Canon / Nikon bird shooters sheltering under the awning of a cafe. One of the them shouted out ... "hey what about your camera in the rain" ..... "it's a Pentax" was my reply.
It really was a miserable day, though walking in the Gardens in the rain was much better than being at home watching afternoon TV (or being stuck under an awning) !
Excuse the title on this shot - it was actually February, the same day as the other shots. My mistake. #1, #2 & #4 were K7 & Tamron 17-50/2.8, #3, #5 & #6 were the K5 & DA*300.
