Well, that's a surprise if you upgraded from Win 7. Less of a surprise if you upgraded from XP.
Why not buy a card reader rather than using the USB link on the camera which seems to be broken, or rather the software driver is broken/missing.
Or can you reinstall mediaimpression? do you still have the CD which came with the camera?
When you say you've lost your Picasa data, has this program disappeared as well? or is it just that Picasa can't find its files.

You could contact the publisher http://www.arcsoft.com/support/download-patch.html to see if they can supply a copy.

I've just upgraded to W10 and everything remained intact.
But in any event I'd suggest using a card reader rather than connecting a camera to the computer. The images may well still be there, so have a look and/or do a search and see if they are in a folder somewhere.

I lost some images a short while ago and tried different file recovery software, some of which was free, and ended up with Ddrill which seems pretty thorough. It found images I had deleted from my card so worth a go.

Media Impression 2.0 isn't compatible with Windows 10.
As to those lost files, what was your 'F' drive? If it's the camera SD card your card reader may not be compatible with Widows 10 either, or may simply require an updated driver. Can you find the photo files using Windows Explorer?

Many thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Some of the information I discovered independently, but a friendly comment never goes amiss.
To restore my equilibrium (if not that of the computer installer) I have today had my W7 computer rebuilt. The situation now, is as if W10 had never happened. This may only be a temporary resolution, but I will continue to search for 'up to date' alternatives to Picasa.

That's really just a photo organiser. Can't you simply move your photos to folders using Windows Explorer without a dedicated program? They can be viewed using Windows Photo viewer. No additional software required. I find using dedicated organiser programs for the task ties you in to their systems, then eventually the inevitable happens as you just experienced. but I will continue to search for 'up to date' alternatives to Picasa
Do you keep backups of photos on an external drive, if not, why not? If they are valuable to you you should!

Whilst I did eventually find my old pictures (in their sub files), via explorer, in W10 - I didn't have Picasa and I'd lost all the extra data.
As I was not expecting this (others seemed to have transferred over from W7 to W10) I was totally 'thrown' by the experience. To be presented with my photos only in date order and been told by the 'computer person' to "just get on with it - Picasa is obsolete"; did not help.
I do have my photos backed up on a separate (external) drive, but the additional information was only within Picasa.
I will investigate the alternatives you have suggested, but as is apparent I don't know much (if anything) about computers and cameras I will probably retire from the forum and continue my life as a dinosaur.

On being 'upgraded' to a W10 OS computer I seem to be having a problem. I have an old I-10 compact camera.
My mediaImpression 2.0 software has disappeared and the 'F drive' which I now have to use just keeps saying 'you have a problem'. I don't want to press any buttons that might format the camera card. As I 've already lost all my Picasa data, it would too much to loose my new pictures as well.
Yes, I know, I've been called a dinosaur many times, but what can I do to fix these problems?
